Find aids: Findbuch 2012 (online searchable) Registraturbilddner: August Gottfried Friedrich Senst was born on 14 May 1864 in Coswig. On 1 November 1881 he was hired in Kiel as a sailor in the Imperial Navy and initially served on the training ship SMS Arkona. Later he served on the gunboat SMS Albatross and the corvette SMS Gneisenau. After the service on the artillery training ship SMS Mars he resigned from the naval service. After hiring on various merchant ships, he joined the Navy of the United States of America in 1891 on the USS Boston armoured cruiser, which was involved in the overthrow of the monarchy in Hawaii. In 1894 Senst entered the service of HAPAG on the fast steamer Fürst Bismarck. He spent the rest of his life in Coswig.
