Part of State Archive Berlin

The R e i c h s k o l o n i a l b e n t (RKB) was a collection organization in which all colonial organizations were combined from 1933 or 1936 to 1943. In order to keep the "colonial question" open, the RKB organized lectures and exhibitions and issued publications. Since the recovery of the former colonies was not one of the aims of the German war, the Nazi state gradually withdrew the financial subsidies from the RKB from 1939 at the latest; in 1943 the R e i c h s k o l o n i a l b u n d was dissolved and the assets transferred to the NSDAP.The holdings in the Landesarchiv are merely a splinter of the tradition; the files come from the collections of the former American Berlin Document Center (BDC) and were transferred from the Federal Archives to the Landesarchiv Berlin: Local groups Berlin-Steglitz and Berlin-Köpenick.indexed: 2 [AE] 0.15 [lfm].Duration: 1937 - 1942.Use: database, index.references: BA NS 52 Colonial Political Office of the NSDAP.

Content and Evaluation The R e i c h s k o l o n i a l b e n t (RKB), not a division of the NSDAP, but a collection basin of all associations previously active in colonial affairs, existed between 1936 and 1943. The documents of the RKB - Gauverband Württemberg - Hohenzollern, which had been captured by the US military at the end of 1942 and had some 49,000 members, were transferred to the Ludwigsburg State Archives after the political cleansing had been completed. There it forms its own collection under the signature PL 520, which was ordered and recorded by Dr. Carl-Jochen Müller between May 2004 and February 2007 in the course of a project financed by the Stiftung Kulturgut for the indexing of the holdings group PL 501-523.
