L - Diakonie

Tectonics description: Topics such as euthanasia under National Socialism, the employment of forced labourers in the Third Reich or the problem of children in institutions in the 1950s and 1970s have increasingly drawn the focus of historical research to the field of diaconia in recent years. The archives of diaconal organisations with their extensive collections of files and images are of crucial importance in this context, regardless of whether they are the archives of the Diakonisches Werk Württemberg as a merger of the aid organisation and the Inner Mission of the regional church, the Evangelische Gesellschaft Stuttgart, the Zieglerschen in Wilhelmsdorf, the Karlshöhe Ludwigsburg, the Paulinenpflege in Winnenden or the Samariterstiftung Nürtingen.

AS - Archivische Sammlungen

Tectonic description: Newspaper cuttings, (sermon) manuscripts, rescripts, decrees, circulars, photos, posters and audio tapes are examples of the archive's collecting activities. In terms of content, the focus is on church personalities, parishes, church buildings, institutions, events and functions, such as the German Protestant Church Congress.
The rich stock of images includes a valuable collection of historical photos from Palestine dating from 1860 to 1935, which come from the holdings of the Syrian Orphanage and the Schneller schools.

A - Württembergische Kirchenleitung

Tectonic description: The A holdings consist of the historical records of the church governing authorities, namely the synod, the consistory, the Oberkirchenrat, the general superintendencies, the prelatures and the regional synod.

The synod and consistory records, which began in the second half of the 16th century, are among the central holdings. They provide a lively insight into the ecclesiastical conditions in the individual parishes of the regional church. Testimonial, servant and job books provide informative personal details on the Württemberg clergy and school servants from the 16th to 20th centuries.

The records of the church leadership are divided into general church records, personal records and local records. The local files provide information on the filling of individual parish positions, their visitation and salaries and, from 1924 onwards, on property matters and building matters of the parishes.
