¹ Die Serie besteht aus einer Vielzahl von Fotomaterial über das Eigentum von Nauru, Ocean Island, Christmas Island und British Phosphate Commissioners (BPC) in Australien. Die britischen Phosphatbeauftragten bauten Phosphat auf Nauru und Ocean Island ab und fungierten als Managing Agent auf Christmas Island und bauten dort auch im Auftrag der Christmas Island Phosphate Commission (CIPC)[CA 6799]. Die Serie bietet eine informative fotografische Dokumentation der Siedlungen und des gesamten Bergbaubetriebs auf jeder Insel. Es umfasst Sehenswürdigkeiten, Landschaften, Gelände, Städte, Land- und Seeverkehr, Luftverkehr, Bergbauanlagen und Aktivitäten. Es gibt Fotos von Arbeitern, Management, Inselverwaltungen, Besuchern und Veranstaltungen von besonderer Bedeutung. Der Bau von neuen Häusern, Büro- und Verwaltungsgebäuden, Kaianlagen, Auslegern und der Wiederaufbau nach der japanischen Besetzung einiger Inseln wird dargestellt. Einige Elemente der Reihe wurden von den BPC-Mitarbeitern als direkte Aufzeichnung der Tätigkeiten der Kommission erstellt. Von Zeit zu Zeit wurden weitere Sammlungen von Besuchern der Insel und in einem Fall von einem Journalisten - Herrn Thomas J. McMahon, der Artikel über die Inseln schrieb - erworben. Andere, die vor der Gründung von BPC entstanden sind, wurden von den früheren Bergbauunternehmen erworben und dokumentieren ausführlich die Zeit, als der Phosphatabbau auf Ocean Island erstmals untersucht wurde. Im Rahmen des BPC war der Ingenieur auf jeder Insel für den gesamten Betrieb der Insel verantwortlich und würde Fotos von dem Gebiet unter seiner Gerichtsbarkeit anfertigen. Diese wurden nach Melbourne geschickt und in Standardalben als "offizielle" Fotos platziert. Diese Alben waren grün für Nauru, braun für Christmas Island und bordeauxrot für Ocean Island, ledergebunden, mit dem Inselnamen und der Bandnummer auf dem Rücken. Die Fotos sind meist in den Alben gesichert, nummeriert und kommentiert. In vielen Fällen wird ein Inhaltsverzeichnis innerhalb des Umschlags jedes Bandes geführt. Andere Volumina unterschiedlicher Größe haben hauptsächlich braune oder schwarze Papphüllen. Der Lauf der offiziellen Fotos wird nun als R32/1 geführt. Negative, die sich auf sie beziehen, befinden sich in R32/10, obwohl die Sammlung nicht vollständig ist. Kopien einiger Drucke wurden in einer separaten Reihe von Alben montiert, die nun als R32/12 vorliegen. Weitere Materialien dieser Serie sind lose Schwarzweiß- und Farbdrucke, Negative, Dias und Folien zu einer Vielzahl von Themen. Diese wurden vom Nationalarchiv zu Sendungen zusammengefasst, die sich auf bestimmte Inseln beziehen, oder nach Medien gruppiert. Vor der Einstellung des Phosphatabbaus des BPC im Juli 1981 und in Erwartung der Übertragung von Aufzeichnungen wurden die Fotosammlungen von der BPC-Bibliothek in einer Serie zusammengefasst, wobei die Bände nach Einzelnummern geordnet unter jeder Insel liegen und die bisher unnummerierten Bände von 101 nummeriert sind. Nach der ersten Zusammenstellung der Fotografien wurden weitere Bücher und einzelne Drucke gefunden und in die Sammlung aufgenommen. Ursprünglich wurden fünf Sendungen dieser Serie in die Obhut des Nationalarchivs überführt, die erste mit den Alben. Nach der Verwahrung wurden bestimmte Negative in den Sendungen 5 und 6 als Silbernitrat identifiziert. Dementsprechend wurden alle Negative in diesen Sendungen entfernt, und die als Nitrat bestätigten wurden isoliert und kopiert. Die ursprünglichen Nitratnegative wurden zerstört und die Kopien in der vorliegenden Sendung 9 verlegt. Die anderen, nicht nitrathaltigen Negative wurden in die vorliegende Partie 6 eingebracht. Die weitere Anordnung und Beschreibung dieser Serie erfolgte durch das Nationalarchiv, was zu einer Neuordnung der Gegenstände führte. Die derzeitige Aufteilung der Positionen und die Zuordnung der Sendungen dieser Serie stellt sich wie folgt dar: R32/1 Offizielle Fotoalben R32/1 R32/2 Weihnachtsinsel Fotos - lose R32/3 Nauru-Fotos - lose R32/4 Ocean Island Fotos - lose R32/5 Verschiedene Fotografien - lose R32/6 Schwarzweiß-Negative - allgemeine und solche, die aus der Elemente in R32/3 und R32/5 R32/9 Kopien von Nitratnegativen, die aus Elementen in R32/3 entfernt wurden. zu R32/5 R32/10 Schwarzweiß-Negative von Fotografien in Gegenständen von R32/1 R32/11 Schwarz-Weiß-Glasnegative R32/12 Kopien von Fotos in Elementen von R32/1/1 R32/13 Ganzseitige Negative von Fotos aus den Alben CIPC 1-10 und CIPC NN aus R32/1 R32/14 Einzelne Negative von Fotos aus den Alben CIPC 1-10 und CIPC NN aus R32/1 R32/15 Individuelle Negative von Fotos aus den Alben CIPC 1-10 und CIPC NN aus R32/1 (zweite Kopie, identisch mit R32/14) R32/16 Kopieren von Fotos aus den Alben CIPC 1-10 und CIPC NN aus R32/1 Beachten Sie, dass es keine Sendungen 7 oder 8 gibt. Im November 1994 gab es Stücklisten für alle oben aufgeführten Sendungen mit Ausnahme von R32/9. Die Elemente in R32/1 und R32/12 haben ihre ursprünglichen Steuersymbole so weit wie möglich beibehalten, bevor sie von der BPC-Bibliothek neu nummeriert wurden. Da es kein umfassendes Ordnungssystem für die gesamte Serie gibt, wurden den meisten Positionen Steuersymbole in Form von Einzelnummern mit Alpha-Präfixen auferlegt, um für jede Sendung diskrete Sequenzen zu bilden. Positionen in Konsignation 2 wurden ein C-Präfix für die Weihnachtsinsel, diejenigen in 3 ein N-Präfix für Nauru, in 4 ein O-Präfix für die Ozeaninsel, in 5 ein S-Präfix für Sonstiges und 11 ein G-Präfix für Glass Negative zugeordnet. Positionen in Konsignation 6 wurde ein Präfix von NEG für Negativ zugewiesen, bei dem die Negative nicht als gültig für Drucke in anderen Konsignationen identifiziert werden konnten. Wurden jedoch Negative aus Gegenständen anderer zu verlegender Sendungen in Sendung 6 entfernt, so haben sie die Kontrollnummer ihres Ursprungserzeugnisses beibehalten. Das heißt, Negative, die aus der Position[S24] von R32/5 entfernt wurden, werden ebenfalls als Position[S24] in R32/6 identifiziert. Ebenso wurden den Positionen in der Konsignation /10, die sich auf die Positionen in R32/1 beziehen, die Steuersymbole dieser Positionen in R32/1 zugeordnet. In den Jahren 2002-2003 wurden umfangreiche Konservierungsarbeiten an Fotos in R32 durchgeführt. Lose Fotos in den Sendungen 2, 3, 4 und 5 wurden in Bildmappen in Archivqualität abgelegt, während Fotos in den Sendungen 1 und 12 aus ihren Originalalben entfernt und ebenfalls in Bildmappen platziert wurden.
