Archival history

The mission archive in Breklum comprises the archives of the work of the Schleswig-Holstein Evangelical Lutheran Mission Society to Breklum (Breklum Mission) from its foundation in 1876 to 1971 as well as the "Pastor Christian Jensen Anstalten für Innere Mission zu Breklum", which later merged with it. In 1971 the mission work was transferred to the North Elbian Centre for World Mission and Church World Service (NMZ), whose files were stored in Breklum until about the year 2000. Today, the legal successor of the NMZ is the Centre for Mission and Ecumenism - northern Church worldwide. the archive contains not only the minutes of the outer and inner board of the Mission Society, but also the correspondence with the missionaries in the mission areas of India, Africa, China and Papua New Guinea, and thus unique testimonies of inestimable value. In addition to written testimonies, photos and sound recordings are also part of the historical archive, which also contains the documents of the Catechetical Office in Breklum, also known as the "Breklum Seminar for Missionary and Church Service", which existed from 1945-1970. The files of the preschool Rissen (1964-1970) are connected with it. by the former Nordelbische church archive the existence was arranged and registered in a finding aid book.
