Teil von Hessian State Archives Darmstadt (Archivtektonik)

History of the inventor: On 21.7.1821 the districts of Heppenheim, Bensheim, Lindenfels, Hirschhorn and Wimpfen were formed. In 1832 the district districts were abolished and re-divided. Among others, the district of Bensheim was created from the former districts of Lindenfels, Hirschhorn and Wimpfen, whereby Wimpfen remained as an independent administrative district. In 1840, a number of territorial adjustments were made between the districts of Bensheim and Heppenheim. In 1848, administrative districts were established at short notice instead of districts, but these were abolished in 1852 and replaced by the newly formed districts of Heppenheim, Bensheim, Lindenfels and Wimpfen. In 1874 the districts of Wimpfen and Lindenfels were dissolved. The districts of the Lindenfels district were distributed among others to the districts of Bensheim and Heppenheim. In 1938 the district of Bensheim was dissolved; most of the district municipalities were assigned to the district of Heppenheim, which was now renamed 'Kreis Bergstraße'. The seat of the district administration was Heppenheim.
