LZ 104, the so-called "African Airship", was one of the most efficient transport airships that could cover long distances. LZ 104 was built especially to supply the troops in D e u t s c h - O s t a f r i k a during the First World War. The airship was not to return after the supply flight and thus served as a supplier for the troops in the field. The outer shell could, for example, be used for tents and as gauze bandages. The aluminium scaffold should be used for transmission masts or barrack scaffolds. After some start problems the journey took place on 21.11.1917 along the coastline of European Turkey, Asia Minor, Kos over Aegean Sea, Crete, Sallum, Sidi Barrani, oases Siwa Farafra and Dachla in Egypt, Wadi Halfa (Sudan), Khartoum. Shortly before Khartoum the airship received the radio message that everything was in the possession of the English and that the crew should turn back with the ship. As a result the Africa journey was interrupted. A brief overview of the airship can also be found on the popular Wikipedia page: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/LZ .
