The Ministry of the Interior, created by the Decree of 10 October 1849, was the supreme head of the internal administration of the Land, insofar as it did not fall within the remit of other ministries or the State Ministry. The Ministry was in charge of the supervision of all local authorities and was entrusted with the management of the sovereign police force and the supervision of all police authorities and institutions. His tasks also included the handling of economic and general agricultural matters, including the regulation of property, farm and day labour relations, transport, association and press matters, the administration of roads and hydraulic engineering as well as social services. In addition, the Ministry's portfolio included citizenship matters, border and electoral matters, as well as civilian administration matters related to the military. Essentially, the business circle of the Ministry remained unchanged until 1945. It was extended in 1875 to include the civil status system. In 1905, the Ministry of Justice, Department of Education, transferred the affairs of the technical and commercial technical and further education school system from the Ministry of Justice to the Ministry of the Interior. During the First World War, the Ministry was responsible for controlling the food supply and the war economy, and after the war it was responsible for civilian demobilization. In 1919 the newly founded Ministry of Agriculture, Domains and Forests (see 5.12-4/2) took over the handling of agricultural matters, including rural labour and ownership, and in 1937 also agricultural water matters. There are gaps in the file tradition. Major losses were caused by the fire in the government building in 1865. At the beginning of 1945, files from 1933 to 1945 were deliberately destroyed in the Ministry. Most of the files of the Department of Social Policy from the period after 1918 were also lost. A. History of the Inventor: The Technical Office, established in 1933, set up testing facilities for weapons and equipment at various locations that existed until 1945. Inventory description: KOMMANDO DER ERPROBUNGSSTELLEN According to the provisions of the Versailles Treaty of 1919, the German Reich was prohibited from developing and constructing aircraft for military purposes. Nevertheless, as early as 1920, the Reichswehr Ministry (RWM) set up units with the task of carrying out preparatory work for the creation of development and testing sites for an air force. For example, a "Air Defence" (TA) unit was set up in the Truppenamt (TA) and an aeronautical unit in the Inspektion für Waffen und Gerät (IWG). After the merger of the IWG with the Waffenamt (Wa.A) of the RWM at the beginning of 1927, the aeronautical department became the department 6 F of the testing group (Wa.Prw. 6 F). He was in charge of the development departments disguised as civil engineering offices as well as the test groups in Johannisthal and Rechlin. The testing thus fell within the competence of the testing department of the Weapons Office. At the end of November 1928, the procurement department was also taken over by the Wa.L.Prw. Group. At the end of July 1939, in order to better meet the growing requirements, the Aviation Group in the Weapons Office (Wa.L) was divided into three groups: "Development of aircraft (Wa.L. I)", "Development of equipment" (Wa.L. II) and "Testing" (Wa.L. III). There was also a group on "Procurement" and a group on "Defense Economics and Armaments". On February 8, 1933, on the orders of Reichswehr Minister Blomberg, the Air Protection Office (LA) was formed, which was now also to be responsible for the development, testing and procurement of aircraft, aircraft engines and special aircraft equipment. He was assigned the aviation group in the weapons office, now known as Wa.Prw. 8, as Division L 2. After the transfer of the air-raid protection office to the newly created Reich Aviation Ministry (RLM) in May, the aviation technology department was initially subordinated as the Technical Department (B II) to the General Office (LB) of the RLM, but then, in the course of the reclassification of the RLM to the Technical Office (LC) on October 1, 1933, and, like the latter, directly subordinated to the Secretary of State for Aviation, Colonel General Milch. It was divided into the departments LC I (Research), LC II (Testing) and LC III (Procurement). Colonel Wimmer, as head of the Technical Office, remained responsible for aviation technology, while Captain Freiherr von Richthofen, who headed the LC II department from June 1934, was in charge of the technical aspects of the test centres (e-places). Until the Luftwaffe was unmasked in March 1935, the tests were carried out by the "Test Centres of the Reich Association of the German Aviation Industry" disguised as civilian. The "Commando der Fliegererprobungsstellen" (Command of Pilot Test Centres), which had been established in 1934 and was based in Rechlin, now appeared as the central testing authority. At the head of the command was the commander of the testing stations (K.d.E.), who was at the same time head of the E station Rechlin and superior of the chief of the E station Travemünde. His supervisor was the head of department LC II (Testing). In December 1936, the E posts Rechlin and Travemünde as well as Tarnewitz were directly subordinated to the new Chief of the Technical Office, Colonel Udet, in 1937 and charged with the development and technical testing of the Luftwaffe equipment. In the course of a reorganization of the entire RLM, the Technical Office was directly subordinated to Göring. As a result, Udet changed the organizational structure of the Technical Office again in May 1938 and dissolved the office of Commander of the Test Laboratories. The E posts now received independent command offices, which were technically subordinate to the head of the Technical Office. On February 1, 1939, the Technical Office, the Supply Office and the "Industry and Economy" group of offices were merged to form the new General Airworthiness Inspectorate (GL) and once again placed under the authority of the State Secretary for Aviation. South (Foggia) (c. 1941-1942) In the second half of 1941, the E-Stelle Süd started operations at the airfield in Foggia, Italy. The Order of St John, which came into being with the crusade movement at the end of the 11th century, fell victim to secularisation at the beginning of the 19th century, as did all religious institutions. The German Grand Priory in Heitersheim (in the Breisgau region) was dissolved in 1805/6 with its subordinates, including those in the new Grand Duchy of Baden and the Kingdom of Württemberg. The Brandenburg Bailiwick, which since the 14th century enjoyed a special position within the Grand Priorate of Germany strengthened by the conversion to Protestantism around 1540, was not secularised until 1811, but remained in existence in the form of an Order of Merit for persons of Protestant and Russian Orthodox denomination who deserved to serve the Prussian king, the royal house and the monarchy. In 1852 King Friedrich Wilhalm IV of Prussia restored the Ballei Brandenburg of the Order of St. John. The initiative for the revival of the Order and for the foundation of "cooperatives" in the Prussian provinces and in southern Germany also proceeded from it. The development in Württemberg was concluded in June 1858 with the award of corporate law, i.e. the status of a legal entity, to the "Cooperative of Knights of the Bailiwick Brandenburg of the Order of St John of Wuerttemberg in the Kingdom of Württemberg" residing in Stuttgart. It was joined by knights from Baden and - until the foundation of a cooperative society in the Kingdom of Bavaria in 1888 - also by Bavarian knights. There was no intention to found a cooperative of its own for Baden several times, so in 1906 the cooperative was renamed "Württembergisch-Badensche Genossenschaft des Johanniterordens". Since 1978 it has been called "Baden-Württembergische Kommende des Johanniterordens". It was originally a legal person by royal Württemberg sovereign act and is now a non-profit registered association of civil law. The Baden-Württemberg Kommende of the Order of St John is subordinated to the Ballei Brandenburg, which is subdivided into a total of 20 cooperatives or Kommende. At the head of the Order, which also includes Johanniter groups in Belgium, Austria, the USA and South Africa, is the Master of Masters, who is elected by the Chapter, the supreme decision-making body. An expansion of the tasks took place with the statute of the Baden-Württembergische Kommende of 30 September 1978 § 2 (2): "The purpose of the association is the promotion of the general public through care and assistance for the sick, the elderly, the physically and economically weak, as well as young people and children. The Association carries out this activity in hospitals, old people's homes and other social institutions, as well as through affiliated working and auxiliary communities. In times of external and internal danger, the Association is particularly dedicated to "the wounded, the sick and other injured". In addition to their historically founded, intensive diaconal commitment, the Kommende is characterised by a pronounced cultural commitment. It is supported by three pillars: the archive, the library and the museum. The Archive of the Order has been located in the Main State Archive in Stuttgart since 1969. The Johanniter Library was founded after World War II. It contains valuable bibliophile works from six centuries, especially from the history of the order. Since 2007, the library has been housed as a deposit in the Badische Landesbibliothek Karlsruhe. The Johanniter Museum Krautheim a. d. Jagst is a joint institution of the town and the Kommende. The historical building, which was originally owned by the Order of St John and then by the Teutonic Order, now belongs to the city, the exhibits of the Kommende. The museum was opened in 1978 and was given a new appearance in 2006 on the occasion of the 700th anniversary of the city. The Commentators of the Baden-Württemberg Commentaries: 1858-1868 Frhr. Reinhard von Gemmingen-Hornberg since 1973 Knight Friedrich von Molo Content and evaluation History, order and indexing of the holdings The tradition of the Baden-Württemberg Commendary of the Order of St John is kept in the Main State Archives in Stuttgart as a deposit. For the documents received in 1969, there is already a completed find book available which was produced in 1970 by the inspector candidate Renate Pruschek. The since then existing taxes of June 1983, May 1984, August and September 1988, which were made by the Commentator of the Baden-Württembergische Kommende Friedrich Ritter von Molo and by the Hohenlohe-Zentralarchiv Neuenstein, have been combined to a partial stock and are indexed in the present find book. The recording initially took place as part of the training of the archive inspector candidates Corinna Pfisterer, Regina Keyler, Bettina Herrmann under the guidance of archive assessor Dr. Peter Schiffer from July to September 1988. From October 1988 to March 1989, archive inspector Sabine Schnell, among others, made the remaining title recordings and carried out the final work. Since the stock was recorded by several editors, it was not always possible to design the title recordings uniformly. A pre-archival order of the files is not recognizable, therefore the structure of the find book of Pruschek served as basis for the present find book. However, a modification was necessary. In order to avoid overlaps in the order numbers, order number 401 was used for the distortion of the present partial stock. In particular, the inventory contains files on the organisation and administration of the cooperative. Insights into the tasks of the cooperative are rather provided by the publications and journals received, the existing books provide information above all about the general history of the order. Personal documents of the commentators on membership and function in the Order remained in the private estates of the Hohenlohe Central Archives in Neuenstein. The listed documents have a total duration from (1714-1719) 1853 to 1987. Since the stock is property of the Johanniterorden, no cassations were made. The partial stock P 7/2 comprises 293 units with 8.3 m running time. The finding aid was created with the help of data processing on the basis of the MIDOSA program package of the State Archive Administration of Baden-Württemberg.

The holdings 60 (Municipal Administration/Mairie of the City of Mainz, 1798-1814) have a complicated and eventful history of order and description. In the following, an attempt will be made to list the individual stages of this inventory in chronological order. Order of the registry in the French period (1798-1814) The archives 60/113 provide information about the administration of records of the Mainz city administration 1798-1814. The first part is a list of all files and official books created or kept since the establishment of the municipal administration, which was compiled on the 25th Prairial VIII. It also contains the civil status registers, which will not be taken into account in the following, as they are listed and described in section 50. The second part was built successively in the following years until 1814. In each year a file list of the yearly created and closed files was made. The division into two is undoubtedly a consequence of the Napoleonic administrative reform of 1800 (transition from municipal administration to Mairie). Year after year, the secretariat and the offices of the municipal administration/Mairie created a file volume on certain subjects, so that a kind of subject series register was created. At the end of the year the volumes were handed over to the "Archives" (= registry). Therefore, when the list was drawn up, only the current files of Year VIII were located in the individual offices. In addition to files, a large number of official registers were kept. They played a far greater role in the French administration than in the German administration, since they served on the one hand as the administration's most important auxiliary and finding aids, but on the other hand also reproduced contents, so that the actual subject files, in which the incoming and (initially also) outgoing letters were stored, probably only rarely had to be accessed. All incoming and outgoing letters have been registered in the official records referred to here. Among them the general register "Régistre Général" is to be mentioned first as letter (entrance) diary. A number was assigned to each incoming letter in the Secretariat. The number was noted on the received letter with the addition "R.G.". In addition, a brief summary, the sender, the date of the letter and the office to which it was assigned were recorded in the General Register. Where a reply to a letter received has been drawn up or a decision taken, its number has also been recorded in the General Register. The numbers of the "normal" letters ("lettres") were replaced by "corr." (=correspondance), those of the resolutions ("arrêtés") are marked "arr. The concepts of "lettres" and "arrêtés" are attached to the respective subject file volumes only until Vendémiaire VII/September 1798 (applies to Lettres) or until the end of Year VII beginning of Year VIII/October 1799 (applies to Arrêtés). In addition, they were recorded in fair copy in two other series of official registers also kept by the Secretariat, the Correspondence and Advisory Register. On this basis, the numbering of "lettres" and "arrêtés" already mentioned was also carried out. The letter received to which an outgoing letter referred can be seen on the one hand in the Registre Général and on the other hand in the letter received itself, on which, in addition to the 'R.G.' number, the 'Arr.-' number also appears. or "Corr." No. was noted. The Mairie continued to keep the General Register and the "répertoire", a kind of subject register, but decided not to keep the resolution and correspondence registers. This made the concepts of "lettres" and "arrêtés" the only evidence of the letters and regulations issued. In order to keep track of them, their drafts could no longer be filed in the subject file volumes together with the letters received in response to which they were initiated, but had to be organised separately. The concepts of the outgoing letters were thus numbered consecutively from September 1798 and October 1799 (see above) and formed two series in which the drafts of the "lettres" and "arrêtés" were filed chronologically and (mostly) summarised monthly. If one follows 60/113, a further change occurred with the establishment of the Mairie: The secretariat/police office and Bien Public office files are kept by the secretariat, while the financial office still seems to have its own registry. The files created and kept at the secretariat are usually stored in beige paper sheets - often printed forms that have been turned over. Until the year XI, the respective subject series file was held together with a glued-on paper strip, which was provided with the file title. They've been numbered since year X. There are about 60 subjects for the secretariat, whereby the number fluctuates, since new subjects were added from case to case or older subjects were omitted, thus there were series splits or series associations, over which 60/113 offers a good overview. The subject files of a year were most likely bundled and stored in these bundles (inscription: year) in the old registry/archive. Probably for this reason, part of the "French Archive" was only grouped together in file aprons before the new indexing. The Commissioner of the Executive Board of the Municipal Administration apparently also had his own registry. Subject files were also created for him. The files shall be numbered after the title of each file, preceded by the abbreviation "No." . Their duration often exceeds one year, often covers years VI to VIII and thus the entire term of office of the Commissioner. Also on the documents of these files one finds numbers of a general register, so that it can be assumed that the commissioner of the executive directorate had its own general register and thus its own document administration (a kind of own secretariat). The holdings also include files from the provenance of the Administrative Commission of the School Fund, which were left in the holdings because of their proximity to the city administration. In the case of these files, there was no longer a recognizable order of files or registries. The files of the negotiations of the municipal council are wrapped in blue cardboard and were apparently kept separately from the other files of the administration. Some files of the collection, especially those concerning accounting, are wrapped in light blue cardboard and have German lettering. Also the formulation of the titles of the acts indicates that they were written in Hessian time (after 1815). There is much to suggest that these were files that were needed by the city administration during the Hessian period. This, of course, required a review of the French files. At the beginning of the 20th century (around 1920?), the librarian Heinrich Heidenheimer presumably attempted to dissolve the old subject files, which had been laid out on a year-by-year basis, and to merge them according to new subject matters. From the documents which were not (or could not be?) assigned to a "large" subject, he tried to create individual files. Not affected by this reorganization were the official books, the Arrêtés and Lettres series, and (probably) 23 bundles, which only remained ordered by year. The result of this attempt at classification is documented in the old register "Französisches Archiv - Bestand 60". The bundles in which the new subjects were grouped were numbered from 1-148 (one number per subject, so several bundles could have the same number if the subject was supposed to be the same). In part, however, a number did not conceal a reference file, but rather a very thin - already mentioned - single case file containing only a few sheets or even only one printed matter. The number of this file was mostly completed with a Roman "II". At the time of the redrawing, the individual case files were often located within the beige file apron in orange, strongly acidic folders (60s?) with filler lettering. Inside the other file aprons, envelopes made of crumbled packing paper with a high acid content, which could date from around 1920, were used to structure the documents. These envelopes were often labelled with only one year and were irrelevant for the context of the file. Only summarily (without signature or numbering) are listed in the directory - as mentioned - Lettres and Arrêtés, official books, military matters, matters concerning the inhabitants, accounting (also printed matter), taxes (also printed matter), the port and schools/lessons. Eight bundles were only labeled with letters and sorted alphabetically. According to the register, these were "requests to the administration, sorted by personal names (e.g. passports)". This series, too, was first created at the beginning of the 20th century by the order works. An example of how it was done: In a bundle with the old signature 138 (138-subjects: medical police/138,1; midwives/138,2; vaccination/138,3; medicine/138,4 and 138,5) there were ONLY old file covers with the following titles and registry signatures: IX/...X/14, XI/14 : Police medicinale XI/12: Police medicinale, vaccine, Maison d'accouchement, pharmacie XII/14: Police médicinale, vaccine, accouchement XIII/14, XIV/15: Police médicinale, pharmacie, vaccine, accouchement, épidémie, épizootie, glacière 1807-1812/13, 1814/13: Police médicinale, pharmacie, vaccine, accouchement, épidémie, épizootie, enfants trouvés, glacière, quinquina The original subject files were thus dissolved according to the new subjects 138,1-138,5, the original file covers were separated. (In other cases, the file covers also remained in part of the closed file.) Where the documents on livestock epidemics, foundlings and glaciers remained is not apparent at first. Unfortunately, it must be noted that the content of the parts of the file which were among the various subjects did not always correspond to those subjects! It is probable that the "annual bundles" still found at the time of the new listing should also be dissolved. The order within these bundles was chaotic. This disorder has either already existed in the French old registry (the disordered documents would then never have been assigned to a subject file...) or has arisen from the attempts of archivists to organize them. Or both "procedures" come together. The main subjects in the unresolved annual bundles were: "Police civile en générale", "Affaires mixtes", "Certificat, renseignements sur des individus, "Pièces à communiquer", "Publication ...". These are therefore precisely those subjects which can hardly be assigned to other "large" subjects and which were probably not of great importance for the administration at the time either, so that no great attention and working time will have been devoted to the sorting of these documents. It is likely that archivists wanted to use these documents to create the alphabetical series "Requests to the administration, sorted by personal names (e.g. passports)". Ordnungs- und Verzeichnungsarbeiten Heiner Stauder (1991-1995) Heiner Stauder began in 1991 with the order and indexing of the official book series. After the completion of this work, the drawing of the militaria was started. Various attempts at order and sorting (registration of all numbers of the Registre Général; dissolution of the Lettres and Arrêtés series and assignment to the corresponding letters received; dissolution of individual subject series, including "service militaire", "police militaire", "affaires militaires"; formation of individual case files for submission) proved to be impracticable. The listing of the "Militaria" was interrupted in order to prefer the listing to the "Medicinalia" due to user requests. The following signatures were assigned: 001-136: Amtsbücher 150-186: Militaria 201-215: Bürgerannahmen (They were arranged alphabetically by Mr. Tautorat around 1991/92 and then entered in a card index of names, which is located in the finding aid cabinet of the user room). 300-349: Documents and series, mainly health and poor affairs concerning 350-508: "arrêtés"; 509-703: "lettres"; the no. 350-703 were recorded by Mr. Jung in autumn 1995. The development of a printed matter collection for the French period according to the model of the Landesherrlichen Verordnungssammlung (LVO) was started by leaving only one copy of printed ordinances or news, as far as they were present several times in the file volume, in the file. The rest have been separated. The documents of the Mainzer Veteranenverein found in the "French Archive" were spun off and assigned to the corresponding estate. Mr. Stauder also began with the separation of individual documents, which were only to be assigned to a file bundle after completion of the recording, and with the dissolution of the old FA60 bundles according to subject matter. The author has also continued his recording of subtitles and alto and registry signatures (see below). After the described experiences and on the basis of the peculiarities of the found stock, the author renounced to form (new) series - however it may have been - or to restore the old registry order - also only in rudimentary form. Instead, a numerus currens distortion was performed on the basis of the found condition. The merging of units that belonged together in terms of content thus took place only after the title listings had been completed - on the basis of the classification and the three - very detailed - indices. The subject file bundles listed in the old directory FA 60 were dissolved, since the file aprons contained a wide variety of subjects, which were often only roughly summarized under one catchword. The bundles were reviewed, units with related contents within the bundles - some of them still in the original file covers of the registry - were left together and newly recorded (the old archive signature is of course always indicated). The still unrecorded militaria had already been pre-ordered by Mr. Stauder and reassembled according to the facts. The signatures 269-273 and 284-285 were made by him, left so by me and listed. Individual documents within the various bundles, which differed completely in content from the otherwise found subjects, were first separated and, after completion of the indexing process, added to the archives to which they fitted in terms of content. The old small files, the individual files mentioned above, were left as they were and re-inserted. The bundles, which were only marked with a year (probably part of the original old registration), were also dissolved according to subject matter. Recognisable units (e.g. through labelled file envelopes) were of course retained. If possible, documents that had not been (pre-)sorted were either newly created according to subject (e.g. Militaria, Year VI) or first separated and, after completion of the indexing, added to suitable archival records. In total, the stock now comprises 60 1308 units of description or serial numbers. The last current number is 1319. The numbers 140-148, 882 and 944 were not assigned. Subtitles and registry signatures Subtitles are located in brackets below the titles of the files I have assigned. They are usually the original French title(s) of the subject file(s) found on an old envelope within the newly recorded archives. It is only indicated if there is such an original envelope in the file and if the title also matches the content of the documents it contains. Due to the old order work before 1991, the original connections were torn apart - as described above - so that the original file covers only remained in part of the original files, were separated or reappeared in completely different contexts. If it was clearly visible that only part of the original subject file was present in or near the original file cover, only the applicable part of the original file title is also indicated as a subtitle. On the original file covers, in most cases the year and the number from the list of subject series registries were indicated in addition to the file title (for example as year "an 14", as number "21", as title "Corps de metier"). As far as such a file cover was available and fitted to the content or partial content of the newly recorded archive, this registry signature was indicated as follows: XIV/21 (XIV for the year 14 of the French Republic, 21 for the number from 60/113). For years VI to IX, the year and the "heading" under which the subject in 60/113 is to be found have been indicated, where recognisable. The files more frequently contained a large number of documents from the Electoral period. If it was evident that these were pre-files to the events of the French period, they were left in the archives. If no connection was discernible, the events were passed on to Dr. Dobras for classification in electoral holdings. Nachprovenienzen The Lettres series does not end with the end of French rule in Mainz and the handover of the town to German troops on 4 May 1814, but continues until the end of 1814. For this reason, all files of the year 1814 under Lord Mayor Freiherr von Jungenfeld were left in this inventory, since the registry was at least partly continued for so long according to the French model. Foreword Forest Office Bischbrunn: Administrative history: The Forest Office Bischbrunn has its roots already in the 17th/18th century. For the area of the Spessart, a Oberförster was responsible at that time, to whom individual precinct-försters were subordinated. Bischbrunn belonged to these districts. However, after these areas came to the Kingdom of Bavaria at the beginning of the 19th century, a fundamental reorganization of the entire forestry service took place on 22.12.1821. Among other things, the Bischbrunn Forestry Office was created, but its seat was in city tents. To it belonged the districts Altenbuch, Krausenbach, Rohrbrunn, Torhaus Aurora and the municipal districts Collenberg and Michelrieth. The changes in the ruling conditions after the revolution of 1848 necessitated a new forest organisation, which came into force on 1.7.1853. The Bischbrunn Forestry Office now became the Stadtprozelten Forestry Office. With renewed reorganisation of the forestry in Bavaria, own forestry offices were created from the former hunting grounds with the execution order of 23.6.1885. The Bischbrunn forestry office was established with its external staff in the Aurora and Zwieselmühle gatehouse. After the first dissolution of the forestry office Marktheidenfeld (see Reperotrium 5.1.-58) its places Kreuzwertheim, Röttbach, Ober- und Unterwittbach, Wiebelsbach, Rettersheim, Trennfeld, Altfeld Michelrieth, Kredenbach, Esselbach, Glasofen, Marienbrunn, Hafenlohr and Windheim were placed under the administration of the forestry office Bischbrunn. This forestry office existed until the forest reform of 1973. 1974 it was finally dissolved and its area of responsibility was subordinated to the forestry office of Marktheidenfeld, whereby the forestry office of Marktheidenfeld, re-established in 1973, for a short time (until 1.3.1975) even bore the name "Forstamt Bischbrunn mit dem Sitz in Marktheidenfeld" (see chronicle of the forestry office of Marktheidenfeld 1885 - 1985). Only with the final renaming in forestry office Marktheidenfeld there was no more forestry office Bischbrunn. A large part of the Spessart Game Park also belonged to his territory, which was created as early as the 18th century for the hunting care of the authorities and was only finally abolished around 1945. Its care and administration, which were not unproblematic, were the responsibility of the forestry office. Inventory formation: Some of the existing older files were already begun in the administration of the Bischbrunn district before the establishment of the forestry office and then continued at the forestry office. However, they all end in 1974. Hardly any files were kept at the forestry office in Marktheidenfeld. A file repertory has been preserved for the older files. All files available here, which were completed before the introduction of the standard file plan of the forest administration (1953), were assigned to this old file plan. The more recent transactions have been adapted to the unit file plan. to the State Archives: The files were largely taken over by the State Archives from the Marktheidenfeld Forestry Office in 2005. Of course, earlier smaller file duties were incorporated. Instructions for use: The files were divided into two groups, those which could be assigned to the older file plan and those which could be assigned to the unit file plan. In the case of research, the finding aids of the forestry office (ä.O.) Stadtprozelten with its associated districts and those of the forestry office Marktheidenfeld should be consulted in any case. In the registers, only the locations were taken into account to a large extent. Many keywords result from the headings of the file plans, which are in each case prebound. Inventory description: Dept. 18 Bauordnungsamt Scope: 1129 VE (= 197 archive cartons and Überform, 32 lfm = status 14.4.2014) Duration: 1840 - 1990 (above all 1900 - 1950) I. For the development of the building administration Due to the considerable increase in municipal building activity, an independent building and civil engineering office was set up in 1891 in place of the previous city building authority by resolution of the city council assembly, with the building police being located at the building authority. From 1899/1900 the offices were again combined as the Stadtbauamt (Stadtbauamt) (under master builder Georg Metzler, from 1910 Hermann Hüther) with further personnel reinforcement, whereby the following departments existed (essentially until 1939): - canal and road construction; - harbour constructions; - building police and building maintenance; - new construction; - surveying office; - horse husbandry/street cleaning/garbage removal; - municipal nursery; - registry/office. In 1939, after a division of the city planning office, there were three separate offices - building police; - municipal building police (with the building police under the direction of the city planning council (since 1933) Walter Köhler, the latter also included the city nursery); - municipal civil engineering office including street cleaning and surveying office (director: city planning council Hüther). The division of the department in spring 1946 provided for a building department (department head: Hanns Schmitt). After the retirement of Walter Köhler (1890-1977) in 1956, the management of the building administration was transferred to Listmann. At that time it comprised - the building administration office (including the rent authority); - the office for town planning and building supervision; - the building construction office; - the civil engineering office; - the surveying office; - the garden office. Since then, the building administration has been reorganised several times, most recently comprehensively at the beginning of 1998 with the establishment of a building authority from the merger of various building authorities and the establishment of a building maintenance and administration company. II. structure and content The department set up in 1996 in the course of relocations is composed of the file deliveries of the Building Code Office (63) in connection with the demolition of private residential and commercial (non-urban) buildings. The material came into the city archives mainly in the context of a large takeover on 10.02.1993, further by smaller levies. These are mainly building police approval procedures (individual case files) of the city planning office or city building department, which are laid out according to streets or companies. The length and scope of the project, as well as the uniformity and peculiarity of the file management, which stretched far back beyond the caesura of 1945, made it sensible to set it up as a separate department. The content includes numerous files on important industrial companies in Worms, including Cornelius Heyl AG, Lederwerke Doerr, and others.

Administrative history: In article 93 of the constitution of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg, published on 28.9.1860 (Hamb.VO, p.79), it had been determined that the tradesmen should elect a committee for the promotion of the business enterprise. The details should be determined by law. This edition fulfilled the Gewerbegesetz of 7.11.1864 (Hamb.VO, p.161). On the basis of this law, an interim trade committee consisting of 15 members was initially set up, which met for its constituent meeting on 27.1.1865. Its members had been elected five each by the elders of the former guild trades (offices), by the Senate and by the citizens. The committee in turn sent five members as representatives of the trades to the citizenship, where they replaced the deputies departing by law from the former older people. Its task was to prepare the conditions for the future final committee. Soon the interim trade committee presented a bill, which was not approved by the Senate. After long negotiations between senate and citizenship the "Gesetz betr. die Gewerbekammer" (Hamb.Ges.Slg.I, p.119) could finally be published on 18.12.1872. Herewith the committee required by the constitution received the designation "Chamber of Commerce". He was subject to the administrative department for trade and commerce (§ 1). Like its provisional predecessor, the Trade Chamber also consisted of 15 members, five of whom were seconded to the citizenship. Only those tradesmen were to be represented in the Chamber of Commerce who operated their business within the boundaries of the then Hamburg Free Port Area, including the Zollverein defeat. For the purpose of the election, the trades were divided into 15 groups, each of which had to elect a representative, for a period of five years. Three of the members should resign each year. Every self-employed businessman who had the right to participate in the elections for citizenship was entitled to vote and eligible for election. Each year, the members of the Chamber elected a chairman and his deputy from among their number. The Chamber's duties, as outlined in § 11 of the Act, included representing the interests of Hamburg trade, providing expert opinions in trade matters for the Senate, the courts and private individuals, and also participating in the administration of commercial schools. The costs of the Chamber's business operations were borne by the State Treasury. The first elections to the trade chamber took place after preparation by the interim trade committee on 31.3.1875. On 21.4.1875 the newly elected chamber met for its constituent meeting and took over the business and files of the interim committee, which dissolved at the same time. The Reichsgesetz of 26.7.1897 (RGBl., p.665) brought about drastic changes to the Gewerbeordnung. Section 105 of the new Rules of Procedure stipulated that chambers of craftsmen were to be set up to represent the interests of the crafts of their district. § 103q left it to the Land central authorities to determine that existing institutions could be entrusted with the exercise of the rights and duties of the Chamber of Crafts. The new law was gradually enacted by imperial decrees. The provisions on the formation of chambers of crafts entered into force on 1.4.1900 through the VO of 12.5.1900 (RGBl., p.127). In accordance with this, the Senate issued the notice of 2.4.1900 (Official Gazette, p. 487), which transferred the rights and duties of a Chamber of Crafts to the Chamber of Commerce for the entire territory of Hamburg. The requirements of the new trade regulations now also required a reorganisation of the Trade Chamber Act. The focus was on the question of representation of the many new industrial companies that have emerged in recent decades. While a minority of large industrialists were in favour of joining the Chamber of Commerce, the majority of smaller manufacturers decided to remain in the Chamber of Commerce. The area of competence of the Chamber also urgently needed to be revised. Section 3 of the old law had defined the free port area as the scope of the business area, which, however, had shrunk considerably as a result of the customs connection on 15 October 1888. Therefore, the chamber elections were tacitly held for all those tradesmen who were resident in the urban area and in the suburbs. After long negotiations the "Act on the Chamber of Commerce" of 4.10.1907 (Official Gazette p.589) was finally passed. From now on, the chamber was divided into a craft department and an industrial department, each with 12 members. The jurisdiction extended over the entire territory of Hamburg. The members were to be elected for a term of six years. At the end of each year, four members (2 each from each department) resigned. Replacement elections were held for members who resigned early. The Chamber sent representatives from among its members to the Deputation for Trade, Shipping and Industry, to the Advisory Authority for Customs, to the Administration of Trade Education and to the Supervisory Authority for Guilds. Parallel to the reorganization of the Chamber of Commerce, an Industrial Commission was formed at the Chamber of Commerce (Official Gazette 1907 p.600). The "Bekanntmachung betr. die Errichtung der Gewerbekammer und die Industriekommission der Handelskammer" of 23.12. 1907 (Official Gazette p.757) brought both changes into force on 1.1.1908. This solution was a compromise between the two conflicting aspirations in industry circles which emerged during the long negotiations. The new version of the Trade Chamber Act of 20.11.1922 (HGVBl. p.645) essentially brought changes in the election procedure, which were partly due to the discontinuation of Hamburg citizenship. The number of members for trade and industry was increased to 20 each. The election continued for six years, but with the proviso that half of the members should resign every three years. An additional important innovation was the raising of funds for the Chamber, which had previously been paid for from the State Treasury. Now § 27 of the law gave the possibility to raise a contribution graduated after the height of the taxable conversion. The new elections were to be held within 3 months of the promulgation of the law. The new law was brought into force by the announcement of 20.11.1922 (HGVBl. S.657) on 23.11.1922. In the following years, only minor changes were made to the law in force: on 4 June 1924 (HGVBl. p. 375), on 7 February 1927 (HGVBl. p. 84), on 6 April 1927 (HGVBl. p. 173) and most recently by the "Third Ordinance on the Implementation of the Act on the Structure of Administration" of 30 March 1928 (HGVBl. p. 136). A new task fell to the trade chamber with effect from 1.4.1930 by the mechanism and establishment of the handicraft roll with regulations of the Reich Minister of Economics of 25.4.1929 (RGBl. I S.87) and of 4.3.1930 (RGBl. I S.35). The Chambers of Crafts (Gewerbekammern) were required to keep a register of all craftsmen who were engaged in a standing trade on their own. The National Socialist seizure of power brought a complete break in the history of the trade chamber. On 31.5.1933 (Senate Protocol I 1933, p.272), the Senate approved a joint motion of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce of 18.5.1933 to form an "Industry Committee" at the Chamber of Commerce consisting of representatives of both chambers. However, this state of affairs was only of short duration, because on 26.1.1934 (Senate Protocol p.27 and printed matter no.1) the Senate enacted the "Law on the Formation of a Unified Industrial Division at the Chamber of Commerce". The Chamber of Commerce took over the sole representation of Hamburg's industry after the dissolution of the industrial department of the Chamber of Commerce. The Reich legislation now brought about drastic changes: On 29.11.1933 the "Gesetz über den vorläufigen Aufbau des deutschen Handwerks" (RGBl. I p. 1015) was passed with the three implementing ordinances of 15.6.1934 (RGBl.I p.493) and 18.1.1935 (RGBl.I p.14 and p.15). The 2nd regulation of 18.1.1935 determined in § 1 the management of the chambers of crafts according to the Führergrundsatz. The Reich Minister of Economics was in charge of supervision. The 3rd Ordinance of 18.1.1935 tightened up the provisions concerning the register of craftsmen, in which from then on only self-employed persons who had also passed the master craftsman's examination were entered. Only those who were entered in the trade register were allowed to operate an independent trade as a standing trade. The management of the handicraft register was transferred to the trade chamber by the ordinance of the senate of 26.4.1935 (HGVBl. p.119). The Gewerbekammer ceased to exist as a result of the "Gesetz zur Aufhebung des Gesetzes über die Gewerbekammer" in the form of an announcement of the Reich Governor dated 30.9.1936 (HGVBl. p.227) with effect from 1.10.1936. It was replaced by the new Chamber of Crafts. Delivery and order The files of the Chamber of Commerce were delivered in four deliveries (1957,1965,1976) from the Hamburg Chamber of Crafts to the State Archives. During a preliminary examination in 1963, mainly journeyman and master craftsman examination files were collected, except for examples, because the Chamber of Crafts has master craftsman directories with information on the examination date. The file size before the beginning of the order work was approx. 13 linear metres. After cassation of already printed annual reports, concepts, cash audit cases and duplicate documents, the volume now amounts to 11.8 linear metres of shelving. The file classification used by the Chamber of Commerce proved to be unusable because of its group designations, which were mostly too general, and was not adopted. The reorganization was based on a classification according to factual aspects with partial reference to the earlier scheme - as far as possible and necessary for understanding the connections. The demarcation of the Gewerbekammer from the Handwerkskammer resulted from the design of the Handwerkvertretung in the National Socialist period. With 1.10.1936, the effective date of the new legislation, the existence of the Chamber of Commerce ends. The files of the supervisory authority for the guilds also delivered by the Chamber of Crafts form an independent collection (376-15). July 1978 Inventory description: The Hamburg Constitution of 28.09.1860 stipulated that tradesmen should elect a committee to promote the trade. A law should determine the details. The Trade Act of 1864 created the basis for the establishment of an interim trade committee at the beginning of 1865 to prepare a final committee. It was not until the end of 1872 that a Trade Chamber Act was published, with the result that the committee required by the Constitution was given the designation Trade Chamber. The Chamber of Commerce consisted of 15 members and was subordinate to the Administrative Department for Trade and Commerce. The tasks of the Chamber of Commerce included representing the interests of Hamburg's trade, providing expert opinions on trade matters for the Senate, courts and private individuals, and participating in the administration of commercial schools. Changes in the trade regulations led to the Senate of the Chamber of Commerce in 1900 also transferring the rights and duties of a Chamber of Crafts. The trade chamber law of 04.10.1907 divided this into a crafts department and an industrial department. The NS era brought drastic changes. In 1934 the Chamber of Commerce took over the sole representation of the Hamburg industry after the dissolution of the industrial department of the Chamber of Commerce. With effect from 01.10.1936 the activity of the trade chamber ended. It was replaced by the new Chamber of Crafts. History of the Inventor: On 21 March 1919, the Admiralty was established as the top authority of the Navy, whose chief stood on an equal footing with the chief of the army command. On 15.9. 1920 the Admiralty was renamed to Marineleitung (ML) and on 1.6. 1935 to Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine (OKM). At the head of the OKM was the commander-in-chief of the Kriegsmarine (ObdM). Inventory description: With the decree of the Reich President of 21 March 1919, the Admiralty, which was subordinate to the Reich Minister of Defence, was established as the top authority of the Navy. Since 1 October 1919, the Chief of the Admiralty stood on an equal footing with the Chief of the Army Command. It was renamed Marineleitung (ML) on 15 September 1920 and Oberkommando der Kriegsmarine (OKM) on 1 June 1935. At his head was the commander-in-chief of the Kriegsmarine (ObdM). Characterisation of the contents: From the hand files of the commander-in-chief of the Kriegsmarine, only those of the Grand Admiral Erich Raeder on leadership, personnel and shipbuilding issues have been fragmentarily archived in the Federal Archives. Administrative history: In order to prevent the misuse of company names and to be able to determine who is entitled to act on behalf of a company, the obligation for merchants to register the legal relationships of their companies with the commercial court in a register accessible to everyone was introduced on 1 January 1836. However, until 1 August 1866, when the relevant provisions of the Introductory Act to the General German Commercial Code entered into force, the obligation existed only for newly established companies and for them only if the company name and the name of the owner were not identical. The possibility of voluntary registration was given. The company protocol initially established for all entries except procurations was later replaced by registers for each legal form. Special registers were added as cooperative registers (from 1869), sign registers (from 1875), design protection registers (from 1876) and stock exchange registers for goods and securities (from 1896). For each register number, a file was kept which contained documents filed in addition to a copy of the register entry. From 1 October 1879 the registers were kept at the regional court, from 1 January 1900 at the district court in Hamburg. The district courts of Bergedorf and Ritzebüttel kept their own registers for their sprinkles. The registers of companies, societies and cooperatives were closed on 31 December 1904, their still valid contents transferred to the commercial registers and a new cooperative register. Preliminary Remark Legal Foundations The "Ordinance of 28.12.1835 (Hamburgische Verordnungen Bd.14, p.307-316) on the Notification to the Commercial Courts of the Establishment, Change and Repeal of Commercial Societies, Commercial Firms, Anonymous Companies and Procurants to be Made in Commercial Courts, which became Popular by the Council and Citizen's Conclusion of 15.October 1835" of 28.12.1835 (Hamburgische Verordnungen Bd.14, p.307-316) introduced in Hamburg for the first time an obligation for merchants to have the legal relationships of their companies entered in a register at the Commercial Court which is accessible to everyone. It entered into force on 1 January 1836. This regulation had come into being on the initiative of Commerzdeputation, which from 1823 constantly tried to persuade the Council to adopt a regulation which prevented the misuse of company names and created an opportunity to establish who was the actual owner of a company and who was entitled to act on its behalf. Initially, however, not all commercial enterprises were required to be entered in the register. Excluded were all already existing companies, however to the common sense of the owners it was appealed to to be registered voluntarily for the promotion of the thing (Publicandum of 28.12.1835, Hamburgische Verordnung Bd.14, S.317). In addition, registration was waived where the name of the trading company was identical to the name of the sole proprietor. Accordingly, the obligation existed only for 1. acting-Societäten (§ 1 of the regulation) 2. the action of the sole owner of a acting firm, which either did not contain its own full name or was not limited to its own name (§ 3 Abs.2) 3. granting of procurations (§ 4-8) 4. anonymous companies (§ 9-10) 5. agents and representatives of foreign insurance and similar companies (§ 11) 6. Hamb. insurance companies and other public limited companies (§ 12). The aforementioned had to report every establishment, change and cancellation of a company and submit all circulars to the Commercial Court - Company and Procurator's Office, partly also called Company Office. With the "Bekanntmachung betr. die Anmeldung im Firmen-Bureau vom 1.2.1844 (Hamburgische Verordnungen Bd.18, S.7)" (Announcement concerning the registration in the firm's office of 1.2.1844, Hamburgische Verordnungen Bd.18, p.7), the obligation arising from the 1835 ordinance was once again made public and in some cases specified in more detail. In 1865, the deposition of trademarks, labels and packaging provided for in Art. 24 of the Hanseatic-French Commercial and Shipping Treaty of 4 March 1865 (published on 30 June 1865, Hamburg Ordinances Vol. 33, pp. 233-234) was transferred to the Office for Business and Procuration. The introduction of the General German Commercial Code by law of 22.12.1865 (Hamburgische Verordnungen Bd.33, p.533-561) brought a substantial extension of the obligation to register in the registers. The Commercial Code and the Introductory Act came into force in Hamburg on 1 May 1966. According to Article 19 of the Commercial Code, every businessman was now obliged to have his company entered in the Commercial Register. Paragraph 6 of the Hamburg Introductory Act also introduced the obligation to register the circle of traders to whom, under Article 10 of the Commercial Code, the rules for merchants were not to apply, such as traders from small businesses, hoekers, carters, ordinary skippers, etc., if they appointed an authorised signatory or if they wished to enter into an open partnership to operate their trade. In contrast to the Regulation of 1835, the transitional provisions (§§ 1-5) of the Introductory Act stipulated that the new provisions were also binding on all existing undertakings. It was imposed on these companies to register within 3 months, so that from 1.8.1866 all commercial enterprises in the Hamburg area, with the exception of Ritzebüttel, would have to be entered in the registers of the Commercial Court. In addition, Article 13 of the Commercial Code provides for the publication of all entries in the registers. So far, since October 1847 only the applications provided for in §§ 1 and 3 (2) of the Regulation of 1835 had apparently been published on the basis of an order of the Commercial Court. - In detail and on the other extensions and changes in the tasks of the company office under the Commercial Code see: The Commission reports and further negotiations on the introduction of the General German Commercial Code in Hamburg, p.3-5 (Library A 913/9). The special protocol for cooperatives to be established in accordance with the Genossenschaftsgesetz (Cooperatives Act) was also kept at the Commercial Court in accordance with § 1 of the "Ausführungsverordnung zum Norddeutschen Bundesgesetze betreffend die privatrechtliche Stellung der Erwerbs- und Wirtschaftsgenossenschaften vom 4.Juli 1868" (Implementation Ordinance on the North German Federal Laws concerning the Private Law Status of Acquisition and Economic Cooperatives of 4 July 1868) of 30 November 1868 (Hamburgische Gesetzsammlung Bd.III, p.86-88) from 1 January 1869. In Bergedorf, a separate commercial register was created at the local court from 1.1.1873 (announcement of 29.12.1872, Hamburgische Gesetzsammlung Bd.VIII, p.249-251). With the entry into force of the Reich Law on Trademark Protection of 4.12.1874 on 1.5.1875, the "entry of the trademark of goods" in a register of signs was transferred to the Commercial Court (Announcement of 26.4.1875, Hamburgische Gesetzsammlung Bd.XI, p.52-54). In the following year, due to § 9 of the Reichsgesetz regarding the copyright on designs and models of 11.1.1876 (Reichsgesetzblatt, p.12), the keeping of the design register was added. The Court Constitution Act of 27.1.1877 (Reichsgesetzblatt, p.41) ended the old Hamburg Court Constitution on 1.10.1879. For the tasks of the "Handelsgerichts-Bureau für das Firmen- und Procurenwesen" (Commercial Court Bureau for Companies and Procurators), i.e. keeping the commercial, cooperative, design and trademark registers, the district court was responsible for the Hamburg territory with the exception of the Ritzebüttel and Bergedorf district authorities; for the aforementioned district authorities, the district court concerned was responsible (§ 5 of the Act concerning the non-contentious jurisdiction of 25 July 1879, HamburgischeGesetzsammlung Bd.XV, pp. 253-255). On 1.10.1894 the jurisdiction for the protection of trademarks ended. It was transferred to the Reich Patent Office (Law for the Protection of Waaren Designations of 12.5.1894, Reichegesetzblatt, p.441-448). The Stock Exchange Act of 22.6.1896 (Reichsgesetzblatt, p.157-176) added the maintenance of two stock exchange registers, one for goods and one for securities. For the district courts of Bergedorf and Ritzebüttel, no stock exchange registers were established, but jurisdiction was transferred to the regional court. The registers were kept until the amendment of the Stock Exchange Act in 1908. On 1.1.1900 the "Bureau für die Handels-, Genossenschafts-, Markenschutz- und Mustererschutz-Register" (Bureau for the Commercial, Cooperative, Trademark and Design Protection Registers) transferred its duties to the District Court at the Regional Court (§ 125 of the Reichsgesetz über die freiwillige Gerichtsbarkeit vom 17.5.1898, Reichsgesetzblatt, p.189). Register maintenance Two registers were created on 2.1.1836, the Company Protocol (A 6) and the Procuration Protocol (A 7), on the grounds of the company office. In the company protocol, all registrations provided for by the law, with the exception of procurations, were recorded. This remained essentially the case until the entry into force of the General German Commercial Code. From 1843 to 1856, a special "protocol of foreign companies" (A 8) was kept, in which foreign companies whose owners were temporarily in Hamburg were registered. Parallel to this, from 1843 to 1847 there was a "protocol for procurations by foreign companies" (A 9). The Protocol on Powers of Attorney (A 10), which ran from 1957 until the entry into force of the General German Commercial Code (Allgemeines Deutscher Handelsgesetzbuch), was considerably more comprehensive than the two aforementioned protocols. In contrast to authorised signatories, the persons entered in these minutes were only entitled to represent a company in accordance with the deposited power of attorney. After the entry into force of the General German Commercial Code (Allgemeines Deutscher Handelsgesetzbuch), the company and proxy protocols were declared commercial registers within the meaning of the Code (§ 1 of the transitional provisions to the Introductory Act, Hamburgische Verordnungen Bd.33, p.559). They continued to be guided. A protocol for public limited companies (A 11) has been newly established. In this register, in addition to the joint-stock companies registered so far in the company minutes, the proxies of foreign companies registered so far in the power of attorney minutes were also recorded. Furthermore, until the creation of a special protocol for cooperatives (A 18) on 1 January 1869, "associations" of craftsmen were entered in this protocol. As there had been repeated difficulties with the neighbouring states because of the recognition of extracts from the "Protocols", "Registers" were established on 1.1.1876. The older entries were not transferred. The company register (A 12) for sole traders and the company register (A 13) for open commercial companies and limited partnerships were created as a continuation of the company protocol, as well as the shareholder register II (A 14) for joint stock companies and limited partnerships on shares and the company register III (A 15) for authorised representatives and agents of foreign anonymous companies as a continuation of the company protocol. The protocol of the cooperatives became the register of cooperatives (A 19). Only the Prokura protocol continued to exist under the old name. Until 31.12.1875 15129 numbers had been assigned in the company minutes, 407 numbers in the minutes of the joint-stock companies. For the Company Register and the Company Register I a common numbering was made starting with no. 15130 up to 31.12.1889. From 1.1.1890 onwards, each register beginning with No. 27401 has sequential numbers. The registers of companies resulting from the minutes of joint-stock companies also have a common numbering - beginning with No. 408 - which was maintained until 1904. From 1.6.1885, the Company Register IV (A 16) was created for the branches of foreign companies that had previously been entered in the Company Register II. Finally, in 1895, the Company Register V (A 17) was established for limited liability companies. Until then, they had also been entered in the Company Register II. With the 31.12.1899 the Prokurprotokolle end. The authorized signatories were now entered in the corresponding company register or company register I, as was already the case with anonymous companies. Following the entry into force of the new Commercial Code, the entries previously made in Company Register III (A 15) for authorised representatives of foreign companies were no longer permissible. From now on, the legal entities whose obligation to register is determined in § 33 et seq. of the new Commercial Code of 10 May 1897 (Reichsgesetzblatt, p. 219) were included in this register. (in: Senate Commission for the Administration of Justice, II C d 3 a 1 Vol. 1) the closure of the registers of companies, partnerships and cooperatives was determined. The commercial registers A, B and C and a new cooperative register took their place from 1.1.1905. The contents of the old registers, which were still valid, were gradually transferred to the new registers. The stock exchange and model registers remained unaffected. Delivery, loss of records and order Since 1902, the files due for destruction at the end of the retention periods have been delivered annually to the various registers by the Local Court. The files for all registers were filed by the court after deletion of the entries according to a common Repositioning number sequence - The first delivery of registers (protocols) and lists of names apparently took place in 1910. Further registers and protocols of general content were delivered on 4.1.1933 (G.A. H 2 a 54). The large series reached the State Archives on 11.2.1950. In the years 1951, 1953, 1961 and 1967 smaller subsequent deliveries took place. Losses of records have occurred both at the Local Court and in the State Archives. No registers have yet been delivered to the State Archives: Company Protocol No. 15084 to 15129, Procuration Protocol No. 11767-12016, and Protocol for Joint Stock Companies (No. 1-407). In the State Archives, Volume 2 of the Protocol on Interrogation and Volume 3 of the Protocol on Powers of Attorney were probably destroyed by water damage during the Second World War. The files relating to the registers are also incomplete. Losses occurred due to cassations at the district court and water damage at the state archives. The administrative work now being carried out concerns only the protocols and registers for which delivery directories were previously only partially available. A review of the files and possible cassation of those containing only extracts from the registers was initially postponed. Notes on use 1. running time information The running time information for the registers only takes into account the date on which the respective register sheet was set up. They have therefore been placed in parentheses. However, almost every sheet also contains later entries. 2) Mutual references In the case of entries for a company in different register series, as well as in the case of the creation of new pages (if the old ones were fully written), mutual references have always been made, as far as established. 3. company register II to V The individual volumes frequently also contain entries for shareholders with lower register numbers than can be assumed from the title. Reference is made to such entries in the previous section. 4. directories of names A complete directory of names for all entries is not available, but almost all series are indexed by alphabetical or rough alphabetical directories. Inventory description: The customs and excise deputation was used to supervise the entire customs and excise system in 1814. It monitored customs duties on goods, ship customs duties and consumption excise duties (excise duty). In 1844 the Trade Statistics Office (from 1912 Trade Statistics Office) was established in the main customs office as an administrative branch. In 1863, the deputation was merged with the stamp duty for the deputation of indirect taxes and duties, which in 1874 received three departments responsible for stamp paper, declaration of goods and consumption duty. When the deputation was abolished in 1920, the Trade Statistics and Freeport Office was formed. The Best. comprises essentially protocols and disposal books as well as files to the following ranges: General administration (organisation, accounting, personnel matters, buildings and inventory), Hamburg taxes and levies, Hamburg statistics (import and export of goods, shipping), trade and transport matters, prices and cost of living, non-Hamburg customs duties and taxes; the acts of war concerning goods and shipping in the First World War are of particular importance. Administrative history: Preliminary remark The Deputation for Trade and Shipping replaced the Shipping and Port Deputation in 1863, from which it assumed the following tasks: shipping affairs, port administration, pilotage, light and buoyage, quarantine, rescue, general average, seamanship, examination for seafarers (navigation school). Other tasks included the business of the previous commission for ship documents (ship registration), the previous deputation to the Brokers' Rules (brokers and auctioneers), the Grain Rules and the Kempe (supervision of grain sizes), as well as the supervision of public cranes and scales. The hydraulic engineering (electricity and port construction), which was formerly subject to the shipping and port deputation, was at the same time transferred to the building deputation. Another new task was the handling of trade matters that had previously been handled by Commerzdeputation. This also included the appointment and swearing in of various experts. In 1866 the Commerzdeputation was converted into the Chamber of Commerce and determined that it had to address its applications to the Deputation für Handel und Schiffahrt and to issue expert opinions to this authority. The opinions of the Chamber of Commerce, other interest groups and individual companies in most of the files of this stock give this stock particular value. Later the deputation took over the newly created quay administration as further tasks in 1866, in 1868 the North German naval observatory, which was taken over by the Reich in 1875 as the German naval observatory, in 1870 the calibration system, in 1875 the supervision of the beach dams, in 1882 the supervision of the petroleum port as successor of the Teerhof deputation and in 1897 the mint after the abolition of the commission for the mint. In 1907 the deputation was expanded by representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and the Chamber of Detailists and renamed Deputation for Trade, Shipping and Commerce. The deputation was taken over in 1907 by the fishing industry (Fisheries Directorate) - inland fishing matters remained with the Landherrenschaft -' 1915 the newly created Price Inspection Office (for the city area), 1918 the State Price Inspection Office superior to the three local Price Inspection Offices. After the transition of the customs system to the Reich Administration, the Deputation took over in 1920 the tasks remaining in Hamburg in the field of customs and excise duties (previously the Deputation for Indirect Taxes and Duties and the Senate Commission for Customs), the Trade Statistics Office (previously the Deputation for Indirect Taxes and Duties), the handling of the war measures against enemy enterprises and enemy property (compensation and refunds) processed since 1914 by the Deputation for Indirect Taxes and Duties, as well as the newly established Freeport Office. In 1921 the administration of waterways and navigation marks was transferred to the Reich, and in 1926 the newly created Waterway Directorate (Reichswasserstraßenverwaltung) took over the tasks in the field of waterway management still carried out by the Deputation. The deputation, on the other hand, in 1926 left the administration of the so-called "Hafenelbe" from Orthkaten to Blankenese and the port piloting. In 1928, the Deputation took over the Emigration Office (previously the Emigration Authority), the Guild Inspectorate (previously the Guild Inspectorate), the Slaughterhouse and Livestock Market Administration (previously the Slaughterhouse Deputation), the tasks of the Senate Commission for Railway Affairs and Mining (previously the Mining Inspectorate). In addition to the slaughterhouse and livestock market administration, the dyke market administration and the administration of the annual and weekly markets were added later. At the same time the nautical school was handed over to the vocational school authority. In 1930, the deputation also took over the construction of the river and port (previously the building authority) and in 1933 the World Economic Archives (previously the university authority). In 1933 the Deputation für Handel, Schiffahrt und Gewerbe was renamed Behörde für Wirtschaft; it was under the authority of the Verwaltung für Wirtschaft, Technik und Arbeit. In 1933, electricity and port construction was transferred to the Department of Technology and Labour. New tasks in 1935 were the job creation system (previously directly subordinated to the Administration for Economy, Technology and Labor) and the price formation and monitoring office. In 1936-1937 the job creation system was temporarily independent as a "job creation office", from 1958 onwards it was a department within the department "Special representative for economic development and four-year plan", which in turn formed a department of the administration for trade, shipping and industry at the time and was an independent department within the municipal administration of Hamburg from 1939 onwards. The delivery lists from 1927-1943 are now in the attachment to H 9780/58, those from 1954 and 1957 in the business file 2112-0/2 Mat. A delivery probably already before 1914 as a special stock "Eichwesen" was put up under the - original - signature IV A, the protocols registered before as Senate files (Cl.VIII No. XLIII) under III C into this stock. The records were delivered as follows: 23. 4.1892: records of the deputation 1886-1891, 12. 7.1892: records of the deputation 1867-1872 and records of the section for shipping 1864-1866, 26. 4.1902: records of the deputation 1863-1866, 1873-1885 and records of the section for trade 1864-1866. From 1892-1929 the records were delivered annually. A total of about 100 running metres have been delivered. The 65 linear metres remaining after the cassations have now been set up as Registratures I, II Special Acts, II General Acts and III. The oldest registry, only from 1863-1867, is now 371-8 I Deputation for Trade, Shipping and. Industry I (see special preliminary remark). This is followed by the extensive and most important registry, which was established after the abolition of the two sections for trade and shipping in 1867. It's falling into general and special files. General Files This registry was established at about the same time as the Special Files, around 1868, and consisted of the same main groups I-XXIV, to which the main groups XXV to XXXII were added over time. The most recent main group XXXIII "Port and Shipping Agreements with Prussia" only exists in the General Acts. A list of authorities established after 1920, which does not yet contain the main group XXXIII, was classified under the signature III B 5.40 in the holdings Deputation für Handel, Schiffahrt und Gewerbe II Spezialakten. The older General Acts mostly consisted only of laws, ordinances, etc. in print; most of these could be cashed. Another part of the files contained only references to special files. Special files The Deputation for Trade, Shipping and Commerce II Special files portfolio initially consisted of the main groups I-XXIV, to which the main groups XXV-XXXII were added over time. The only official register, which was sent to the State Archives in 1954, was apparently created only after customs had been taken over in 1920. As it stands, it contains only the groups of files dealing with port and maritime matters. The remaining main groups have been stapled. With the help of this directory and a collection of the associated subdirectories, an overview can be gained of the original scope of these groups of files, the war losses that occurred, the cassations that were carried out, and the files continued by the Reich Waterways Administration and the Department of Economics and Transport. Under the signature III B 5.40.1. it was classified into this stock. The files of the "Special Representative for Economic Development and the Four-Year Plan" were removed from main groups VI and XXI and now form main group XXXIII. The special registries: war files, files of Commission 10 of the Workers' and Soldiers' Council, of the Transition Economy and secret files were added to this inventory as main groups XXXIV to XXXVIII. Groups XXVII "Information" and XXVIII "Personal data" were dissolved and divided into subgroups, some of which were newly established. With the ordinal numbers 100 ff. or 200 ff. only so-called "collective files" provided with group signatures and files formed from disordered documents were appended to the subgroups. In 1938 and then again during the war, the business of the office "Special Representative for Economic Development and Four-Year Plan" was carried out. After the end of the war in 1945, in the course of the merging of state and municipal administration, the responsibilities in the business area of administration for trade, shipping and industry were newly regulated. The successor authority in 1946 was the Administration for Economics and Transport, which was renamed the Authority for Economics and Transport in 1947 (see 371-16 I). The order comprises the main registry established after the abolition of the sections in 1867 and forms the core of the economic-historical tradition of the years 1868-1946/47. In November 1809, the Grand Duchy of Baden was divided into ten districts named after mountains and rivers, with so-called district directorates as administrative authorities, following the example of France. Order and distortion work: The structure of the general records was largely based on the pre-Fackler registry order from the 19th century. In addition to files without a local reference, general files also include files that have been created for one subject for several municipalities or that concern an entire administrative district (example: district medical office in the administrative district of Lörrach). The local files were structured according to the Baden official registration order of 1905 by H. Fackler (see below), but without the Roman and Arabic numerals used there, whereby the subdivision planned for individual main points was almost always dispensed with due to the small number of file books. The municipalities are listed alphabetically. For each municipality, the respective district is indicated, according to today's status, abbreviated with the identification letters of the motor vehicles, and for municipalities that are no longer independent today, the name of the new municipality is also indicated. The person index contains the names of natural persons as well as the names of professional and lordships, and in the case of files with up to ten sheets of paper, the number of sheets was always mentioned. Find aids: Find book from 1962 (online searchable) Registraturbilddner: Dröschkau belongs to the city of Belgern, Lkr. Nordsachsen, Freistaat Sachsen. Dröschkau was mentioned in 1130 as Burgward im Gau Belgern and belonged in the late Middle Ages to the Stiftsamt Wurzen of the Hochstifts Meißen. The Wettin claim to sovereignty over the Hochstift, manifested as early as 1485, was recognised by Bishop Johann IX of Meissen in 1581. Nevertheless, the Stiftsamt Wurzen, as a neighbouring state of Saxony, retained its own monastery government until 1818. In 1815 Dröschkau with parts of the monastery office came to Prussia and belonged there 1816-1945 to the province Saxony. 1489 in Dröschkau a outwork of the nunnery Mühlberg is documented. In 1582 Stellan von Holtzendorf was pardoned by Elector August. In 1669 the estate was transferred to the von Heynitz family as a result of a marriage. The manor, designated in 1815 as written manor, held the patrimonial jurisdiction over the place at the latest in the 18th century and was subject to the office of Torgau. The Pietzsch Vorwerk and the Schäferei Neusorge belonged to the property complex. The von Heynitz family sat on Dröschkau until the expropriation in the course of the land reform in 1945. Inventory information: The holdings were transferred to the Saxony-Anhalt State Main Archive on 27.06.1949 via the Halle/S. State Library. A repertory was not available, a continuous archive order does not seem to have existed, so that the archival records, which were mostly unbound, had to be rearranged and listed anew. If one compares the information provided by O. Steinecke (Forschungen zur Brandenburgischen und Preußischen Geschichte, vol. 15, 1902, p. 421) on the holdings of the Heynitz family archive in Dröschkau with the archive records that have been transferred to the Saxony-Anhalt state archives, it is regrettable to note that significant losses have occurred. The 41 diaries of Friedrich Anton von Heynitz from the years 1747 to 1783 and 1792 to 1802, mentioned by Steinecke, are missing, among others. History of the inventor: On 14 November 1897, the German Reich occupied the Chinese port of Tsingtau and, in a contract with the Chinese Empire dated 6 March 1898, leased an area of 550 km² with Tsingtau as its centre for 99 years - the Kiautschou protectorate. The province of Schantung, to which the leased area actually belonged, was declared a German area of interest and a neutral zone. In this area the empire received concessions for the construction and maintenance of railway lines and mines. However, as early as 30 October 1895, the German Reich had the right to establish branches in the international contracted ports of Tientsin and Hankou, which had existed since 1859/60. And of course the empire, like the other great powers and other states involved in China trade, also maintained a legation in Beijing. German missions were also active in the interior of China, as were German merchants, especially in Shanghai. The German Reich was therefore indeed heavily involved in China and saw itself as such. Against this background, the xenophobic riots in China in Germany that began at the end of 1899 and quickly became more serious were perceived as a threat. The regent, Empress Cixi, remained ambiguous at first in her measures against the "fist fighters united in righteousness", referred to by the colonial powers as "boxers" for short, units of the imperial Chinese army partly allied themselves with them. The uprising continued to increase from January 1900 onwards, with excessive acts of violence against Chinese Christians and foreigners. From May 1900 the foreign landscapes in Beijing were threatened by insurgents, the railway lines from Beijing to the coast were attacked. The Gesandschaften therefore requested military support. In May 1900, the German Reich sent a contingent of the III Sea Battalion stationed in Tsingtau to Beijing, two further companies were ordered to Tientsin, and the cruiser squadron moved to the roadstead before the Taku forts at the mouth of the river Peiho. Meanwhile, the situation in Beijing continued to deteriorate and further troops were needed. In June 1900, the troops of the colonial powers in China formed an expeditionary corps led by the British admiral Seymour (2066 men). However, this was stopped in mid-June by Chinese troops (boxers and regular army) and had to turn back. The foreigners and Chinese Christians in Beijing had meanwhile barricaded themselves in the Gesandschaftsviertel and were cut off from the outside world. The allied colonial powers (USA, Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy, Austria-Hungary, Russia, Japan) stormed the Taku-Forts on June 17, the Chinese government ultimatively called on all foreigners to leave China on June 19. On 20 June the German envoy, Baron Clemens von Ketteler, was murdered in Beijing. By edict of 21 June, China effectively declared war on the Allies, but this was not reciprocated by them. The Allied troops withdrew to Tientsin at the end of June 1900. In Germany, on 25 June, a naval expedition corps of 2528 men (under Major General von Höpfner) was formed from the members of the naval infantry. In addition, on 3 July the order was given to set up an expedition corps of volunteers from the army (under Lieutenant General von Lessel). The Allies had agreed to form an international expeditionary corps, with Germany as commander-in-chief. On 12 August 1900, the former chief of the Great General Staff, Field Marshal Alfred Graf von Waldersee, was appointed commander-in-chief of the international armed force, which finally comprised 64,000 troops. Waldersee used the "Army Command East Asia" as a staff. The East Asian Expeditionary Corps set sail with its first parts on 27 July in Bremerhaven, when Emperor Wilhelm II gave the famous "Hun speech" at their farewell. With the 19,093 men of its East Asian Expeditionary Corps under Lieutenant General von Lessel, the German Reich provided almost a third of the international armed forces. Emigration Office I

To supervise the entire business operations of the emigrant expedition, a deputation for emigration was set up in 1855. This was taken over by a proof office for emigrants run by the Association for the Protection of Emigrants founded in 1850, whose employees henceforth acted as police officers for emigration (emigration police). The tasks performed by the police authority before 1855 (receiving the emigrant lists, allowing the emigrant ships to leave) remained there. In 1887, the deputation was renamed the Authority for Emigration. It was also entrusted with the essential tasks of the police authority in the field of emigration. In 1918, the authority also took over the remaining emigrant affairs handled by the police authority (supervision of emigrants at railway stations, care of returnees and supervision of emigrant halls). The police office at the Emigrant Halls was renamed the Überseeheim Office and dissolved in 1934. In 1928, the Emigration Office was given the name Emigration Office and was now subject to the Deputation for Trade, Shipping and Commerce, which consisted of the lists of emigrants kept by the police authority, the series of protocols with deputation appendices kept until 1877, the files of the official registration office established after 1887 and a special police office registration at the emigration halls. 1 On the biography of Princess Alexandra zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg: Princess Alexandra Luise Olga Viktoria zu Hohenlohe-Langenburg was born on 1 September 1878 as the fourth child of Duchess Marie (daughter of Tsar Alexander II of Russia) and Duke Alfred (son of Queen Victoria of Great Britain) of Edinburgh in Coburg. She spent most of her childhood and youth in England and Malta, where her father was stationed from 1886 to 1889 as commander of the British Navy, and in the Duchy of Saxony-Coburg-Gotha, which Alfred ruled from 1893 onwards. Alexandra met her cousin of the 3rd degree and later husband, Hereditary Prince Ernst II of Hohenlohe-Langenburg (1863-1950) at an early age on the occasion of his many journeys to England. At the age of 15, she caught his eye especially, and after a fierce advertising campaign with her mother Marie, Ernst received permission to become engaged in 1895. In 1896 the wedding finally took place in Coburg. Alexandra moved with her husband to Langenburg, where he began to prepare for his role as heir to the family estate. Soon the first son Gottfried was born, followed by Marie Melita, Alexandra and Irma and Alfred, who died shortly after his birth. But the plans of the young family changed when in 1899 and 1900 Alexandra's brother Alfred and her father died shortly after each other. Ernst took over the regency in the duchy Saxony-Coburg-Gotha for the still minor heir to the throne Duke Eduard von Albany, so that the new centre of life lay for some years in the Thuringian residences. even after the end of the regency 1905 the hereditary princess stayed with her children except in Langenburg from time to time in Coburg at the court of her mother, while Ernst was often absent because of his political ambitions. In 1913 at the latest, when Ernst II inherited his father as prince, Langenburg Castle finally became the main residence of the family. Nevertheless, during the First World War, the new prince was again absent for a longer period of time. Due to his leading functions in voluntary nursing, he spent most of his time on the Eastern Front. Alexandra took advantage of this time by also being involved in war care and from 1914 to (at least) 1917 she worked as an assistant nurse in the war hospital in Coburg herself.After the war and the political upheavals in Germany, Ernst withdrew largely into private life, so that his wife was now also able to fully fulfil her role as Princess on the Langburg estates, only interrupted by occasional journeys. Princess Alexandra died on 16 April 1942 in the Deaconess Hospital in Schwäbisch Hall and was buried in Langenburg. 2 On the estate and its treatment: The estate of Princess Alexandra consists mainly of correspondence and contains only very few 'fact files', which largely corresponds to her rather withdrawn role at the side of her husband, who is much more active publicly and organizationally. The documents were probably handed over to the Hohenlohe Central Archives in the 1960s and 70s and roughly sorted there. In the process, it was possible to fall back on Alexandra's own disciplinary measures, which enclosed old envelopes with inscriptions in the sense of a file title with part of the written material. The current distortion was also based on these original file titles, but the depth of development went far beyond this. Hardly any transformations had to be carried out, and only a slight mixing with files of other provenance was found, so that few documents were to be removed. However, numerous fascicles were added to the collection, which were found during the processing of other langenburg estates - in particular those of the husband Ernst II and the daughters Alexandra and Irma - and La 143 Nachlass Fürstin Alexandra, which was arranged and recorded in December 2004 by archivist Thomas Kreutzer as part of a project sponsored by the Kulturstiftung Baden-Württemberg. 1st About the Aldinger-Ostermayer family: Karl Aldinger and Hertha Ostermayer married on 24 January 1944. The marriage lasted over six decades. Only the death of Karl Aldinger in 2005 brought her to an end. The ancestors of the married couple were widely ramified and can be traced far back through the stored documents of the inventory. Due to the numerous traditional sources and many patient family history researches, they were deeply anchored in the consciousness of Karl and Hertha Aldingers. During the Second World War Karl Aldinger (1917-2005) was a soldier (last lieutenant). He then managed various agricultural estates (Staufeneck estate, Schafhof estate, Alteburg estate). In 1957 he took over the management of the youth hostel in Esslingen, which he continued to run until 1963. He then ran a guesthouse in Saig (Black Forest) until 1990, which came from the inheritance of an aunt of his wife. Hertha Aldinger (1920-2012) had undergone agricultural training and had been a teacher of agricultural household science since January 1944. After 1 July 1944, she no longer worked for the company, but devoted herself to her five children (one had died very early) and supported her husband in his various tasks. The family archive Aldinger-Ostermayer documents the ancestors of Karl and Hertha Aldinger in almost all lines back to the end of the 18th century. There are rich documents on the families Aldinger, Trißler, Unrath (ancestors of Karl Aldinger) and Ostermayer, Görger, Baur/Giani, Heldbek/Gaiser, Riedlin and Schinzinger (ancestors of Hertha Aldinger). The documents refer to members of the upper middle class in Württemberg and Baden. Some family members were soldiers in the First and Second World Wars (among others Eduard Ostermayer (1867-1954), Helmut Ostermayer (1919-1941) and Karl Aldinger) and have left photos, diaries and memories as well as letters from the wartime. The Aldinger family provided agricultural estate managers for several generations. There are numerous physicians from the family circle: Dr. Oskar Görger (1847-1905), who founded his wealth through his practice in Australia, Dr. Eduard Ostermayer (1867-1954), who was still practicing in his 80s and was thus known in the 50s as Stuttgart's oldest practicing physician, Dr. Karl Schinzinger (1861-1948), also a physician in Australia, and Dr. Albert Schinzinger (1827-1911), who began his career as a surgeon and after his habilitation worked as a professor of medicine at the University of Freiburg (about him Pagel: Biographisches Lexikon outstanding doctors of the nineteenth century. Berlin, Vienna 1901, Sp. 1499-1500). Also worth mentioning are the pastors: Karl Ludwig Heldbek (1756-1829), pastor in Scharenstetten, Christoph Erhardt Heldbek (1803-1877), city pastor in Weilheim, Emil Heldbek (1849-1884), pastor in Auendorf, and Dr. Paul Aldinger (1869-1944), pastor in Kleinbottwar, colonist and pastor in Brazil. The Ostermayers were merchants for several generations, initially locally in Weilheim/Teck and from around 1870 in the Württemberg state capital Stuttgart. Max (1860-1942) and Gottlieb Ostermayer (1871-1910) finally worked as merchants in India. The Heldbek/Gaiser family also knew merchants whose activities later extended as far as Africa (Lagos). The most famous is Gottlieb Leonhard Gaiser (1817-1892). He tried to found a German colony in Mahinland (east of Lagos), but failed because of Bismarck's colonial-political restraint (Ernst Hieke: Gaiser, Gottlieb Leonhard, in: Neue Deutsche Biographie, 6 (1964), p. 39f.). Robert Karl Edmund Schinzinger (1898-1988), university professor and lecturer in Japan, and Ernst Ostermayer (1868-1918), professor and painter are to be emphasized as representatives of science and art. Albert Joseph Fridolin Schinzinger (1856-1926), the Japanese Consul General in Berlin, worked in the field of politics and diplomacy. 2. processing of the stock: The family archive Aldinger-Ostermayer was created step by step. In ancient times, outstanding documents were preserved and entrusted to the next generation. Initially, only a few documents were handed down, mostly letters or documents with a special memoir value. This happened with both the Aldinger and Ostermayer ancestors. Only later generations left behind complete estates, i.e. closed traditions. This was the case with Eduard Ostermayer and his son Helmut as well as Karl and Hertha Aldinger. For Oskar Görger and his wife Marie, original documents have been preserved to a considerable extent, but in smaller quantities. Family research on a larger scale had already been carried out in the 1930s in connection with the Aryan evidence by the Aldingers and the Ostermayers. Lore Braitsch, née Aldinger, collected older documents for the Aldinger family, which she also evaluated (e.g. speech in honour of Dr. Paul Aldinger, cf. Bü 360). After their death in 1998 these documents came to Hertha and Karl Aldinger, so that a family archive for the Aldinger and Ostermayer families grew together. Hertha Aldinger edited this. She supplemented the originals with copies and transcriptions. With admirable patience she transcribed the documents in old, no longer generally legible script, first by hand and later by typewriter. Already in 1996 she worked with computers. Even more important are their evaluations of the family records. She put together different material to certain persons as well as whole family branches, so for her husband Karl (Bü 179) and for herself (Bü 118). She also wrote the couple's memoirs under the title "Our 20 Initial Years" (Bü 246). She also wrote down her personal memories of her parents (Bü 181). For the Ostermayer (Bü 284, 304 and 334), Heldbek (Bü 453, 473) and Schinzinger (Bü 226, 237, 296) families she compiled material and wrote elaborations on the history of these families. Probably also the order of the family archive goes back to them. This only considered a separation of the individual family branches and was otherwise little structured. When the materials were handed over to the Main State Archives in January 2013, they were stored in guide files and the subunits were formed in transparent envelopes. There were also other types of packaging. A handwritten fixation of this order was made on the occasion of the transfer of the family archive to the main state archive in a transfer register (Bü 550). Hertha Aldinger's intensive family research and work have left traces in the state of order. The units were inflated by copies, often multiple copies. Original tradition and copy or transcription were not separated. The original letter series were torn, there was the group of already transcribed pieces and the group of still unprocessed letters. The archival order of the documents restored the series of the original letters. The copies have been reduced. There is little point in keeping an original and a copy of it in the same tuft. Multiple copies of the transcriptions could also be collected. However, different processing stages (e.g. concepts, final version) were left unchanged. There was a larger collection of postcards, which had been arranged after picture motives. This collection also contained described and run postcards, i.e. family correspondence. This had to be reassigned to the letters and cards. The collection of postcards was thus reduced to the undescribed pieces (Bü 506, 509), and the archival indexing attached great importance to a detailed characterization of the Büschel contents in the Contained Notes. This was especially necessary when the title recording for the tuft had to remain very general. The collection was structured in such a way that the central importance of Karl and Hertha Aldinger for the documents is emphasized. Karl and Hertha Aldinger are expressly referred to as related family branches. The spelling of the first names was standardized according to today's spelling: Helmut instead of Hellmut, Karl instead of Carl, Jakob instead of Jacob etc.. The index lists the women among the aforementioned families from the related circle of Aldinger-Ostermayer, but also mentions the marriage name. Women who have married into the circle of relatives are classified under their names of marriage, their names of birth are given in an explanatory manner. The stock P 45 "Familienarchiv Aldinger-Ostermayer" was sorted and listed by the undersigned in Spring/Summer 2013.   1. on the Gauger/Heiland family: Joseph Gauger is the first person documented in the collection with originals. He was descended from a Swabian family that can be traced back to the 16th century and that early confessed to Pietism. His father, Johann Martin Gauger (1816-1873), was head of the Paulinenpflege, his half-brother Gottlob Gauger (1855-1885) was in the service of the Basler Mission and was active 1878-1888 in Africa at the Gold Coast and afterwards in Cameroon, where he died. Joseph Gauger's brother Samuel (1859-1941) was also a pastor and last dean in Ludwigsburg. Born in 1866 in Winnenden, Joseph Gauger became an orphan early on, at the age of 13. He graduated from the Karlsgymnasium in Stuttgart. He first attended the teacher training seminar in Esslingen and became a teacher in Dürnau after graduating. From 1889 to 1893 he studied law in Tübingen, then Protestant theology. Afterwards he became vicar in Mägerkingen and Großheppach, 1898 finally town parish administrator in Giengen. The emerging Swabian career was broken off by the marriage with Emeline Gesenberg from Elberfeld. She was to stay in Elberfeld to care for her father, so the young couple moved into their parents' house in Hopfenstraße 6. There was also a Pietist community in Elberfeld. Joseph Gauger found employment as the second inspector of the Protestant Society, which provided him with a solid foundation for an equally pietistic career in his new Rhineland homeland. Later he was able to obtain the position of Director of the Evangelical Society. The Evangelical Society in Elberfeld had dedicated itself to mission in Germany since 1848. Here Gauger became responsible for the publishing work and the so-called writing mission. Since 1906 he was editor of the weekly "Licht und Leben", an activity he carried out until 1938, shortly before his death. From 1923 he also published the widely read political monthly "Gotthardbriefe". In 1911 Gauger became a member of the board of the Gnadauer Verband and in 1921 - not least because of his musical talent - chairman of the Evangelischer Sängerbund. In 1921 he also became a member of the Constituent Assembly of the Evangelical Church of the Old Prussian Union. His favourite sister Maria married Jakob Ziegler, who worked at the Ziegler Institutions in the pietist community of Wilhelmsdorf (near Ravensburg) as a senior teacher and later director at the boys' institution. Due to the very intensive correspondence and frequent visits to his sister, Joseph Gauger remained attached to Swabian pietism. During the Third Reich, Joseph Gauger and his family were followers of the Confessing Church. Joseph Gauger was finally banned from publishing, his publication organ "Licht und Leben" was banned, and in 1939 he was expelled from the Reichsschrifttumskammer. In 1934 his son Martin refused the oath to Adolf Hitler, whereupon he - a young public prosecutor - was dismissed from public service. Since 1935 he has worked as a lawyer for the 1st Temporary Church Administration of the German Evangelical Church and since February 1936 for the Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Germany in Berlin. When the war broke out in 1939, he also refused military service and fled to the Netherlands. However, he was seized here, arrested and later taken to the Buchenwald concentration camp. He therefore had to give up his church service in 1940. In 1941 he was murdered by the Nazis in the Sonnenstein Killing Institute near Pirna. The younger son of Joseph Gauger, Joachim, was also harassed by the Gestapo for his work for the Gotthard Letters and "Light and Life". After the death of Joseph Gauger (1939) and the complete destruction of the Gauger House in Elberfeld following an air raid in June 1943, the family returned to the south. Siegfried Gauger, after a short time as town vicar in Schwäbisch Gmünd, had already become town priest in Möckmühl in 1933 and had settled there with his wife Ella. Martha Gauger has lived in Heidenheim since her marriage to Theo Walther in 1934. Hedwig Heiland moved in 1943 to Gemmrigheim, the new parish of her husband. The parsonage there also offered space for the mother Emeline Gauger and the nanny of the Gauger children, Emilie Freudenberger. A little later, after her early retirement in 1947, her sister Maria Gauger also moved to Gemmrigheim. After his release from captivity as a prisoner of war, Joachim Gauger had also moved professionally to Möckmühl, where he ran the Aue publishing house. Only Paul Gerhard had stayed in Wuppertal, where he lived in the Vohwinkel district. Emeline Gauger's mother and sister Maria moved from Gemmrigheim to Möckmühl in 1951, which became the centre of the Gauger family, as a result of the forthcoming move of the Heilands to Stuttgart. Because now the mother lived here with three of her children: Siegfried, Maria and Joachim. The family gathered here regularly for sociable celebrations and the grandchildren of Emeline Gauger often came to visit here during the holidays. It was not until the grandson generation of Emeline and Joseph Gauger entered working life in the 1970s that the family scattered throughout Germany. Despite everything, this generation remained in contact with each other and organized regular family reunions. 2nd history of the stock: Bettina Heiland, Marburg, and Susanne Fülberth, Berlin, handed over the family documents Gauger/Heiland to the Main State Archives for safekeeping in January 2011 after the death of their mother Hedwig Heiland. Some further documents were submitted in June 2013. Hedwig Heiland, née Gauger, born 1914, was the youngest child of Joseph and Emeline Gauger and had survived all siblings and close relatives at the age of 96. The documents handed over originate from different persons in the family. Important documents come from her aunt Maria Ziegler, her father's favourite sister who lives in Wilhelmsdorf. She kept the letters of Joseph Gauger and his wife to their relatives in Wilhelmsdorf (to which she also belonged), a remarkable series of correspondence. Memorabilia such as her place card for the wedding of Joseph and Emeline in Elberfeld in 1898 and individual books by Joseph Gauger and the history of the family are also included. After her death Hedwig Heiland received her from her daughter Ruth Dessecker. Other documents come from mother Emeline Gauger, including letters to her and valuable memorabilia as well as files. They must have come to Hedwig Heiland after her death in 1964 or after the death of her daughter Maria, who lived with her. The documents of the brother Siegfried, city priest in Möckmühl, who died in 1981, are also rich. They date back to before 1943, when the parents' house in Elberfeld was destroyed. Worth mentioning are the dense series of letters of his brother Martin (the Nazi victim) and his parents, as well as his sister Hedwig to him. Furthermore there are letters of Sister Maria (until she moved to Möckmühl in 1950). Less dense is the letter tradition of the brothers Paul Gerhard and Emil Gauger to the city priest. Only the memorial book of the young Siegfried, which has a very high memorial value, his children did not want to do without. It is therefore only available as a copy, but in two copies. Sister Maria Gauger was primarily important as a photographer from the early days of Elberfeld. In addition to files on her own life and fate, she kept a family guest book in Möckmühl, which contains many interesting entries on family life and mutual visits. This is also included in the original stock. Her cousin Maria Keppler, née Ziegler, and her husband Friedrich also sent documents to Hedwig Heiland, especially correspondence and photographs. After the death of her husband Alfred in 1996, the documents of the older family Heiland also came to Hedwig Heiland and were kept by her. These were correspondences and the pastor's official records as well as family history materials, investigations and genealogical tables, but also documents from the mother Anna Heiland. In addition, the family of Hedwig and Alfred Heiland had a large number of younger records. Hedwig Heiland also proved to be a collector here, who rarely threw away a document and preferred to keep it. It didn't stop at collecting and picking up. Hedwig Heiland also arranged the documents and supplemented them with his own notes and investigations. Numerous notes on the family history of Gauger bear witness to this. Hedwig Gauger read the letters from her youth, extracted important dates and took notes. On the basis of the documents she kept and evaluated, she made a film in 2007 entitled "This is how I experienced it. Memories of my family and my life, told by Hedwig Heiland née Gauger" (DVDs in P 39 Bü 469). It consists essentially of an interview with her and numerous photos about her life and the fate of her family. Hedwig Heiland was particularly committed to the rehabilitation of her brother Martin. She intensively supported the research on his fate with information, compilations and also with the lending of documents. She collected the results, i.e. books and essays, and compiled the state of research almost completely. For the exhibition "Justiz im Nationalsozialismus" she read letters of her brother Martin Gauger and other documents about his life, which are stored as audio documents on a CD (P 39 Bü 468). Despite the richness of the available material, gaps in the tradition are to be noted. The sudden destruction of the Elberfelder Haus der Gaugers in 1943 resulted in a severe loss of family documents. About Maria Ziegler from Wilhelmsdorf and Siegfried Gauger, who did not live in Elberfeld anymore at that time, other documents from this time have fortunately been preserved, which compensate this gap somewhat. Another gap exists in the correspondence of Hedwig Heiland during the 70s to 90s of the last century. Even then, there must have been a rich correspondence, of which there is hardly anything left. The correspondence of Hedwig Heiland, on the other hand, which has been richer again since 2000, is present; it was hardly ordered, but has not yet been thrown away. In 1993 documents concerning Martin Gauger were handed over to the Landeskirchlichen Archiv Hannover for archiving. They received the inventory signature N 125 Dr. Martin Gauger. The 1995 find book on these documents is available in the inventory as no. 519. 3rd order of the stock: The documents originate from different provenances and had been arranged accordingly. A delivery list could be prepared and handed over for the inventory. Letters from Hedwig Gauger to his fiancé Alfred Heiland from the 40 years and also the letters in the opposite direction have been numbered consecutively, which points to a very intensive reading and thorough order, which, however, is an extreme case. In the letters Joseph Gauger wrote to his sister Maria after 1920, the covers of the tufts contain summaries of the most important pieces and references to outstanding family events mentioned in the letters. This information can be used as a guide during use. However, the original order of the documents was badly confused by the frequent use by the family and by third parties. One has not or wrongly reduced the taken out pieces. Frequently, individual letters were found in the photo albums with photos that were related to the content of the letter, but had to be returned to the original series. A photo album (P 39 Bü 353) had been divided into individual sheets so that the photos required for publications could be passed on to third parties as print copies. Hedwig Heiland had attached self-adhesive yellow notes to many letters and provided them with notes and references in order to be able to orientate herself better in her family-historical research. For conservation reasons, these notes had to be removed. In addition to the restoration of the original order, further measures were necessary for the order of the stock. Many documents were too broadly characterised as "other" or "miscellaneous". Tufts with very different contents were incorporated into existing units. A larger box still contained completely disordered, but nevertheless valuable letters from the period 1943-1952, which had to be sorted and indexed. Thematically similar tufts could often be combined into one unit. For example, mixed tufts containing letters from different scribes to the same recipient were divided and transformed into tufts with uniform scribes. This order according to the principle "a tuft, a letter writer" could not always be carried out. Letters of the married couple Emeline and Joseph Gauger, for example (to Maria Ziegler) are so closely interlocked that they cannot be split into two separate tufts. Sometimes Emeline signed her husband's letter with a short greeting of her own, sometimes she is greeted in the name of both, but often Emeline wrote her own passages on the letterhead and sometimes there are whole letters from her. Separation is also impossible in terms of content. Similarly, letters from Emeline Gauger and Maria Gauger in their Möckmühl days cannot be separated from those of Siegfried Gauger. Such letters were classified according to the author author. The index refers to the other persons. The present order and indexing was based on family interests. Essentially, in addition to the corrections and restructuring measures mentioned above, the documents had to be arranged and made accessible for scientific research. For this reason, a greater depth of indexing was necessary, above all, by means of title recordings with detailed content annotations. An overall order of the holdings according to the different origins of the documents did not prove to be meaningful for a family archive of the present size. The uniformity of the documents produced by Hedwig Heiland was therefore accepted and maintained. Accordingly, the title recordings of the correspondence of members of the Gauger family are arranged according to the letter writer and not according to the letter recipient. Letters usually contain more information about the author than about the recipient. Letters from non-family members and from letter writers to whom little material has grown, on the other hand, were classified according to the recipient principle ("Letters from different correspondence partners to XY"). The present collection documents the fate of a Swabian family closely linked to Pietism over almost two centuries. Outstanding is the relatively well-known theologian Joseph Gauger, who is richly documented with his correspondence and in his writings. The marriage of his sister Maria Ziegler also gives a glimpse of the Pietist settlement in Wilhelmsdorf and the Ziegler Institutions. The family's attitude during the Nazi period and especially the fate of his son Martin, who was imprisoned for his conscientious objection and finally killed, are also reflected in the inventory. Relations with the family of the Berlin prison pastor and member of the Kreisau district of Harald Poelchau are also documented. Dense series of letters from the Second World War (letters from Hedwig Heiland to her husband Alfred, letters from Alfred Heiland to his wife Hedwig, letters from Maria Gauger to her brother Siegfried) tell of the hard everyday life of the World War II. In addition, the collection illuminates the everyday family life of a Swabian family over at least two generations. The collection comprises 529 units in 5.20 linear metres, the duration extends from 1882 to 2010 with prefiles from 1831. 4. History of the Inventor: 1867 Interim assumption of the foreign policy tasks for the North German Confederation by the Prussian Ministry of Foreign Affairs; on 1 January 1867, the Prussian Ministry of Foreign Affairs took over the tasks of the North German Confederation. January 1870 Foundation of the Foreign Office of the North German Confederation, 1871 of the German Rei‧ches as a subordinate authority of the Reich Chancellor with the main departments Politics, Han‧delspolitik, Law (from 1885) and News (from 1915); until 1918 at the same time foreign Ver‧tretung Prussia; 1919 appointment of a politically responsible Reich Minister of Foreign Affairs; 1920 extensive reorganization in regional departments and assumption of cultural-political tasks, 1936 dissolution of the regional departments, reintroduction of the departments inventory description: The Foreign Office, which emerged in 1870 from the Royal Prussian Ministry of Foreign Affairs for the North German Confederation (since 1867), underwent numerous reforms and restructurings during the Bismarck period and the Wilhelminian Empire, the Weimar Republic until the end of the National Socialist dictatorship. old office) comprise only a fraction of the total volume (approx. 1.6 shelf kilometres) from this period. The largest part (about 18 shelf kilometres) of the files remaining after the losses in the final phase of the Second World War is now in the Political Archive of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin. In the 1920s, mainly for reasons of space, the Political Archive had deposited most of the local archival material in the Potsdam Reichsarchiv (mainly files of the Imperial Office, the Trade Policy Department and the Legal Department). Together with other holdings, the Reichsarchiv also stored these documents in 1944/45 in the salt mine shafts near Staßfurt (Saxony-Anhalt) to protect them from bombing. Confiscated by the Soviet occupying forces, most of the material was transferred after 1949 to the then German Central Archive Potsdam (later the Central State Archive of the GDR, inventory signature 09.01) via the Ministry for State Security of the GDR in several charges, and after the German division was overcome to the responsibility of the Federal Archive. Residual files of the Trade Policy and Legal Departments (Dept. II and III, 1885-1920), which for official reasons had remained in the Political Archives of the AA and had finally been taken to England after confiscation by the British occupying forces, were recorded by the then Federal Archives after their return to the Federal Republic (1957) in October 1962 under the inventory signature R 85. About 350 file units are currently still in the "Special Archive" at the Russian State Military Archives in Moscow under the ("Fund") stock number 1357. They are described there in 3 finding aids (for further information and contact see www.sonderarchiv.de). The Federal Archives have lent important documents and files to the Political Archive of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin (Auswärtiges Amt, Politisches Archiv, 10117 Berlin; Tel.: 49 (0) 30/5000-3948). They can only be used and evaluated there (see the respective finding aids for further information). Archival evaluation and processing The first archival revision of the volumes took place at the end of the 1950s in what was then the German Central Archive. They were originally described in a total of 44 finding aids from the Reichsarchiv. The file titles of the units of registration recorded in the Potsdam DZA at the time were integrated into the database of the Federal Archives by means of a retroconversion procedure. When processing the data records, numerous corrections were made to the file titles and runtimes. The currently valid archive rules could not always be applied. While maintaining the existing classification, which was predominantly no longer based on the organisational structure of the AA, series or series of bands were formed as required, whereby numerous subordinate series of bands were also created in series. In some cases, the existing factual structure was expanded and supplemented with modern terminology (e.g. legal department). The Potsdam tradition was merged with that of the old Federal Archives in Koblenz (old finding aids for stock R 85, legal department and trade policy department). An exact temporal delimitation to the existence A 1 is not possible, since the unit file plan of the KGSt was introduced by individual offices at different times, some offices did not introduce the unit file plan of the KGST yet and into the unit file plan also older files were transferred. - Information on the history of the holdings (with references to literature): In the past, the old files were not recorded in the Hof City Archives. Only the lists of the former "Reposed Registry" were used as finding aids. These are sorted by "subjects", within the subjects by Numerus currens (consecutive number). They are incomplete because files added later have not been fully recorded. In addition, only the titles of the files that were printed on the covers were written off, some of them incorrectly read. Contains notes completely missing. The runtime specifications are often incorrect. The list according to subjects and within the subjects according to the serial numbers has the disadvantage that empty space must be left between the subjects. In order to remedy this situation, the files have been listed since 1994 according to archival aspects. Newly found files are incorporated, superfluous files are collected (thrown away). The structure according to subjects is carefully adapted to the actually existing files and the current usage of language. The signatures are assigned according to Numerus currens without taking the compartments into account in order to avoid empty space on the shelves. This distortion, however, will take several years.   1. to the biography: Friedrich Facius was born on 17.8.1907 in Winzlar (GDR). After graduating from high school in 1927-1933, he studied history, German and Latin in Berlin, Jena and Heidelberg. He completed his studies with a doctorate from Willy Andreas, to whom he later felt a lifelong connection. In 1933 he began his preparatory service for the archive career in the Weimar State Archives. From 1935 to 1947 he headed the Landesarchiv Altenburg (Saxony), but remained in Weimar during this time. In 1939, he became State Archives Councillor. From 1952 to 1961 he was at the Federal Archives Koblenz, then the first State Archives Council at the branch of the Main State Archives Stuttgart in Ludwigsburg; there he became Chief State Archives Councilor in 1962. The last station of his professional life was Freiburg i. Br., where from 1967 to 1972 he was Director of the State Archives at the then branch of the General State Archives in Karlsruhe. Until shortly before his death in 1983 he was still scientifically active. 2nd inventory history: In 1983, his wife handed over the extensive estate of Friedrich Facius to the General State Archive in Karlsruhe. From its large library, the archive only took over the historical works and the Badenia. The publications of Friedrich Facius deal with topics of Thuringian regional history as well as industrial and economic history; in the latter he has worked intensively into the history of Baden, of which numerous publications on the F1uss-, shipping and port history of the Upper Rhine area bear witness. He has also dealt with the history of landscape design over many years and has published several essays on it. Friedrich Facius was a member of the Gesellschaft zur Förderung des Deutschen Rheinschifffahrtsmuseums in Mannheim e.V. (Society for the Promotion of the German Rhine Navigation Museum in Mannheim), the Kirchengeschichtlichen Verein für das Erzbistum Freiburg (Association for the History of the Church in the Archdiocese of Freiburg), the Alemannisches Institut (Alemannic Institute), the Kommission für Gesch. Regional studies in Baden-Württemberg and the Breisgau History Association. He was also a member of the scientific working group for Central Germany and the Fürst-Pückler-Gesellschaft. The estate of Friedrich Facius was already handed over to the General State Archives in a preliminary form, whereby the contents were summarized: For example, correspondence on individual issues was enclosed with the corresponding publications and lectures. The editors have now made an effort to bring the material into a systematic order. Membership in historical associations and general correspondence were put at the beginning under the heading 'Personal'. By far the largest part of the estate is, however, the scientific work of Friedrich Facius. It is now arranged thematically in 9 points. A collection of special editions was dissolved and material collections on various historical topics, which - as far as can be seen - did not give rise to any publications or lectures, were collected in accordance with the corresponding norms. The indexes to the bibliography have also been classified under this heading. The Facius estate now comprises 117 fascicles, housed in 18 boxes. The regulatory and registry work was carried out by M. The Colonial Economic Archive, which was established at the Berlin Central Office in 1909, already had records of more than 600 colonial enterprises in its founding year. Due to a lack of documents, it is not possible to determine when the documents were transferred from these archives or the registries to the Reichsarchiv. For the period of the Second World War it can be assumed that the holdings, together with other holdings of the Reichsarchiv, were outsourced and taken over by the German Central Archive Potsdam (later the Central State Archive Potsdam) after 1945. Due to the lack of old finding aids, no information can be given on war-related outsourcing losses. The first processing of the holdings was already carried out at the Central State Archives in Potsdam. Description: Medium and heavy combat ships in the German navy were corvettes, frigates, coastal armoured ships, small (light) cruisers and large (heavy) cruisers, armoured cruisers (battle cruisers), armoured ships and liners (battleships). The stock is intended for splitting. The documents of the heavy and medium battleships of the Reichsmarine and Kriegsmarine will form the new RM 134 stock. Preliminary remark: The inventory FL 300/14 II Local Court Heilbronn: Commercial, Cooperative and Associations Register was reformed within the framework of a systematic spin-off of register documents from the local court inventory started in 2008 for the creation of pure register inventories. It contains documents on the register jurisdiction of the district court district of Heilbronn and the dissolved districts of Bad Wimpfen, Eppingen and Neckarsulm. The District Court of Neckarsulm was closed in 1943 and the District Court of Eppingen was dissolved in 1974. In the course of the restructuring of the district courts after 1972, the commercial and cooperative registers of the district courts of Besigheim, Brackenheim and Marbach were transferred to the district court of Heilbronn. These three "active" district courts Besigheim, Brackenheim and Marbach, however, still maintain the register of associations themselves, therefore the files and volumes of the register of associations have to be searched in the respective provenance holdings. In 1995, the commercial and cooperative register of the district courts of Besigheim and Marbach was transferred to the district court of Vaihingen an der Enz. Since 1.1.2007, the Central Register Court in Stuttgart has been responsible for the commercial and cooperative register. On the one hand, the available register documents were separated from the already existing FL 300/14 (access 10.11.1982 and access 22.02.1984), on the other hand they originate from the deliveries of the Heilbronn Local Court to the register system, which arrived as accesses 2006/26, 2007/25, 2007/81, 2008/42, 2009/27, 2009/60, 2009/122, 2010/12. In February 2011, the District Court of Heilbronn handed over to the State Archives all remaining register volumes for all court districts included in this collection from the vault there under the access number 2011/17. Only for the court district of Heilbronn there are unfortunately no more volumes on the trade and cooperative register, as these were burned by the effects of war in 1944. A special feature of the Heilbronn district court district are the inland shipping and shipbuilding registers, for which numerous register files have been submitted to the State Archives. However, the Heilbronn Local Court still retains the associated ship register volumes. To the individual register types: The inventory contains files, volumes and other documents (name lists, minutes) to the trade, cooperative, and association register. The commercial register files were named HRA (sole traders and partnerships) and HRB (corporations) according to the distinction customary today. The volumes normally available at the local courts are divided into two time layers. From the establishment of the Commercial Register in 1866 until 1938, a distinction was made between sole proprietorships (designation E) and corporate proprietorships (designation G). In 1938, the current designations HRA and HRB were introduced. History of the Inventor: The fleet built in the Electorate of Brandenburg and later in the Kingdom of Prussia fell into decay in the late 18th century. At the beginning of the 19th century Prussia was not a maritime power. It was not until 1811/13 that the company began to acquire vessels for coastal defence again and to develop plans that went beyond this. By letter of 14.11.1817 the other naval powers were informed about the new Prussian war flag. Responsibility for naval affairs lay with the Prussian War Ministry, in which a department for naval affairs finally existed from 1848. At the same time, there was a Technical Marine Commission to draw up proposals for further action. The Royal Prussian Navy was formed with a corresponding Most High cabinet order of 5.9.1848 and subsequently warships were partly commissioned for construction, partly bought or taken over by the fleet of the German Confederation. The Royal Prussian Admiralty was established as the highest naval authority in its own right with the Most High Cabinet Order of 14.11.1853. The head of the Admiralty was the Prussian Prime Minister. The Admiralty at that time consisted of three departments (for Command Affairs; for Technical Affairs; for General and Administrative Affairs). On 30 March 1854, Prince Adalbert of Prussia, the previous head of the Technical Navy Commission, was finally appointed "Admiral of the Prussian Coast" and Commander-in-Chief of the Prussian Navy. On 14.3.1859 the Admiralty was reorganized and divided into two departments (Naval Administration; High Command). Soon afterwards, however, a fundamental reorganization took place. The Admiralty was dissolved with the Most High Cabinet Order of 16.4.1861 and the Prussian Navy Ministry was formed in its place. This was led in personal union by the Prussian Minister of War. With the 25.6.1867 the Prussian Navy went together with the naval forces of the other German states to the North German Federation. The designations in the subsequent period are inconsistent. In research, the term North German Navy is commonly used. The ships now also carried the war flag of the North German Confederation accordingly. The Reichsverfassung of 20.4.1871 defined the navy as a Reich matter and spoke of both "Reichsmarine" and "Kaiserlicher Marine". By an appropriate instruction of Kaiser Wilhelm I. to the chief of the new upper authority for the navy from 1.2.1872 the navy was called from this day on "imperial navy". The Prussian Navy Ministry thus became the Imperial Admiralty. The head of the admiralty was to lead the administration under the responsibility of the Reich Chancellor and the supreme command according to the orders of the emperor (imperial command power). History of the Inventor: When the Imperial Admiralty was dissolved in 1889, the Imperial High Command of the Navy was created for the division of its former Military Department and command over all naval parts at sea and on land was transferred to it. The Commanding Admiral's business area included the execution of all command matters, operational Admiral staff duties, mobilization preparatory work, tactical training and military education. Inventory description: When the Imperial Admiralty was dissolved, the Imperial High Command of the Navy was created on 1 April 1889 for the division of its former military department. The commanding admiral, who was directly subordinate to the emperor, was given command of all naval parts at sea and on land. The Commanding Admiral's business area included the execution of all command matters, operational Admiral staff duties, mobilization preparations, tactical training and military education. History of the Inventor: The Naval Cabinet was created in 1889, modelled on the Prussian Military Cabinet, as an office for the exercise of command in maritime affairs. It became the decisive authority in personnel matters of naval officers. On 28.10.1918 subordinated to the State Secretary of the Reichsmarineamt. Inventory description: Following the model of the Prussian Military Cabinet, the Naval Cabinet was created on April 1, 1889. Designed as an office for the exercise of command in maritime affairs, it has evolved in practice into the key personnel agency for naval officers. As an immediate authority, it was directly subordinated to the emperor, i.e. it was not subject to the responsibility of parliament. The Naval Cabinet should act as the administrative authority for the "management of maritime affairs" and for the transmission of orders to the Naval Authorities and to certain persons. However, the main task became the processing of the personal data and staffing of the naval officers, naval cadets, naval infantry officers, mechanical engineers, witness officers, fireworks officers and torpedo officers. On 28 October 1918 the authority was subordinated to the State Secretary of the Reichsmarineamt and in December 1918 it was converted into the Personalamt im Reichsmarineamt. Characterisation of the contents: The files of the naval cabinet have been relatively completely preserved. This does not rule out gaps in individual cases. For example, there are no detailed file plans or other registration aids or a business distribution plan valid at the time. As adjutant general, the chief of the naval cabinet was in the emperor's personal service. The files of his authority therefore document to a considerable extent the personal affairs of Wilhelm II and other domestic and foreign princes. They contain, among other things, hand-drawn fleet tables, drawings and ship constructions of the emperor, lecture manuscripts, texts of imperial sermons and ship services, correspondence, gift lists and newspaper cuttings with personal marginal notes to all questions of the time as well as documents about construction and maintenance of the imperial yachts, all sea and land journeys of the emperor and personal affairs of the imperial family. The largest part of the stock concerns the personnel affairs of the officers. Although the personnel files were destroyed as intended after the deaths of those affected, the existing extracts from the qualification reports in conjunction with documents on visits, farewells, personnel budgets and staffing allow an almost complete reconstruction of personnel policy in the Navy as well as the military career of individual active officers. Documents on the general organisation of the navy and military political affairs, including correspondence with the military cabinet and other military and civil authorities, as well as military reporting on general political and economic affairs are another focus of the collection. History of the Inventor: After the German Reich had abandoned an active colonial policy in the first years of its existence due to foreign policy considerations, this changed in 1884. The colonies Deutsch-Südwestafrika, Togo, Cameroon, Deutsch-Neuguinea, Deutsch-Ostafrika and Samoa, formally referred to as "protectorates", emerged. The governorates of these protectorates established in the following period were first under the control of the Colonial Department in the A u s w ä r t i g e s A m t and finally of the resulting R e i c h s k o l o n i a l a m t . The Kiautschou leasehold in China, acquired in 1898, was subject to the R e i c h s m a r i n e a m t . From the very beginning it was necessary to be able to assert and protect the interests of the empire in the colonies by military force. In the initial phase, this task was performed by ships and landing commands of the Imperial Navy. In the German South Sea colonies this remained so until the end. In the African colonies there was a development of their own. In 1889, a troupe of German volunteers with a contract under an active officer (Captain Curt von François) was formed in D e u t s c h - S ü d w e s t a f r i k a , which was initially only to perform police duties. In 1889, in D e u t s c h - O s t a f r i k a, the Reich Commissioner Captain Herrmann Wissmann set up a troop of recruited Africans to suppress the "Arab Uprising" that broke out in 1888. With the law of 22 March 1891 the "Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Ostafrika" was finally formed from volunteers of the army and navy as well as recruited volunteers, followed by the "Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Südwestafrika" and the "Schutztruppe für Kamerun" with the law of 9 June 1895. A protection force for Togo was planned at times, but was not formed, just as there were no protection forces for German New Guinea or Samoa. Only police troops were formed there. In the respective protectorates the governor held the highest military power, the commander of the protection troop was subordinated to him. The protection troops were responsible for maintaining security and public order. At times the individual protection troops were exclusively occupied with the suppression of insurrections of the indigenous population. To this end, some considerable personnel reinforcements were recruited from Germany. The Schutztruppen were first led by the Reichsmarineamt. With the "Gesetz betreffend die Kaiserlichen Schutztruppen in den Afrikanischen Schutzgebieten und die Wehrpflicht daselbst" of 18 July 1896, the Schutztruppen were subordinated to the Reich Chancellor, administered by the Colonial Department in the Foreign Office. In the Colonial Department, the Department M - Military Administration (Command or High Command of the Protection Forces) was responsible. The Prussian War Ministry (Army Department) took over the organizational support. Command affairs were handled by the Director of the Colonial Department, with Division M as his military staff. With the establishment of the R e i c h s k o l o n i a l a m t by the Most High Decree of 17 May 1907, the command of the Schutztruppen was placed under its control, now as a military command staff with responsible command power. Like the Navy, the Schutztruppen were under the supreme command of the Emperor. The male German population in the protectorates was subject to compulsory military service. The conscripts in the Schutztruppen were able to meet these demands. In 1913 the Schutztruppe included the following personnel: - Command of the Schutztruppe in Berlin: 80 men - Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Ostafrika: 2758 men (266 Germans, 2492 natives) - Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Südwestafrika: 1970 Mann (German) - Schutztruppe für Kamerun: 1471 Mann (171 German, 1300 indigenous) During the Herero Uprising, the Schutztruppe für Deutsch-Südwestafrika's personnel strength in 1907 was approx. 15,000 men. The outbreak of the First World War hit the German colonies unprepared. Defensive measures against other colonial powers had never been seriously considered, the Imperial Government had assumed that in the event of a European conflict the colonies could be kept out of the fighting according to the agreements in the Congo Act of 1885, despite warning voices from the colonies themselves. On 1 August 1914, therefore, only a state of emergency was declared in the protectorates. It was not until mid-August 1914 that mobilization began in the protectorates, but the armed units there (Schutztruppen, police troops, naval units present) were ultimately without a chance compared with the opponents who were far superior in terms of numbers and materials.
