Introduction :
This is the estate of Adolf von Carlowitz (1858-1928), who after his school years in Grimma and military training in Berlin was initially active as a military educator for the Saxon princes until he was appointed Royal Saxon War Minister. He participated in the First World War initially as Commander General of the XXVII Reserve Corps, was removed from his post after the Battle of Flanders in autumn 1914, and was subsequently appointed Commander of the 12th Reserve Division and the IIIrd Reserve Corps.
After the war he retired from the army, joined the German National People's Party and wrote various historical and war-historical works.
The estate mainly contains letters, mainly from relatives and acquaintances, including King Frederick August III of Saxony. However, there are also letters from other military personnel expressing their views on his removal from command or their desire for reuse. In addition, a collection of newspaper clippings with mention of Adolf, some of his speeches and speeches as well as individual documents such as testimonies and certificates have been preserved. The final section consists of obituaries and obituaries as well as a few letters from his daughter to relatives serving in the administration of the estate.
As this is a private estate, files concerning his position as Minister of War cannot be found here, with one exception.
The numbers Egh.Fam.A.V. 131-147 were sent to Michael Freiherr von Fürstenberg in 1984 by Vera von Carlowitz, the daughter-in-law of Adolf and Priska von Carlowitz, with an accompanying letter (Egh.Fam.A.V. 131).
On the occasion of the transfer of the Archive Eggeringhausen to the Depot of the United Westphalian Archives of the Nobility and its indexing, they were first classified as supplements to the holdings and now added to the existing system.

This is the estate of Adolf von Carlowitz (1858-1928), who, after his school years in Grimma and military training in Berlin, initially worked as a military educator for the Saxon princes until he was appointed Royal Saxon War Minister.
