Medals of remembrance: issued for later commemoration of an event taking place at the time of issue (special forms: medals for baptism, Christmas, congratulations, participation), commemorative medals: issued for commemoration of an earlier event or a deceased person, medals of honour (also: Medals of merit): issued to document the honouring of a living person by a public body (similar to an order), mocking medals, joke medals: issued to ridicule an event, a person or an idea, advertising medals: issued by companies or businesses to attract customers. - Brands: fee stamps (also: discount stamps), i.e. valuable, coin-like pieces that can only be redeemed at a single institution or body for a specific purpose; here also: play money etc. The following numbers have not yet been assigned: 2151-2194, from 2199 - Information on the history of the holdings (with references to literature): Collections of the Stadtarchiv and the Museum Bayerisches Vogtland, some received as gifts or loans from private collectors, some taken over by the municipal administration. The city of Hof or its museum (in contrast to some other municipalities, such as in the time of the emergency money 1914-1923) did not carry out a systematic collecting activity. Purchases of coins or medals are not provable with the exception of a coin find from the bird stove in 1966. Some pieces came into the collection in connection with the foundation of the museum, others in return for Hofer emergency money, which the city of Hof sent to other municipalities. The Hof medals of the 1980s and 1990s are evidence because the City Archives provided the artwork and texts for their design, or takeovers from the administration (e.g. in the case of the 1994 State Garden Show, when the City of Hof liquidated the remaining assets). In many cases, the provenance context can no longer be reconstructed. Information on coin finds: The stock contains coins from several coin finds: A coin was found in 1952 in the hospital church in Hof (XM 1803). A coin was found in 1966 on the Drosselsteig 10 property in the Vogelherd district of Hof. The 115 coins were purchased for the municipal museum. However, only parts of it are available in the inventory. The whereabouts of the remaining coins are unknown. Cf. the list attached to the introduction (only in the printed search book). The third find of coins are the coins that were found during the excavations of the former monastery of the Poor Clares in Hof in 1987. The Landesamt für Denkmalpflege in Schloss Seehof (Memmelsdorf near Bamberg) lent them to the museum. It concerns the order numbers 554 and 1807-1809. Inventory description: The collection contains printed material from the period from 1887 to the present. The printed material consists of magazines, newsletters, membership directories, brochures, lists of addresses and members, notices, circulars, commemorative publications and lists of vacancies. The Bundesarchiv-Militärarchiv collects the archival documents of nationally and supra-regionally politically significant traditional and comrade associations. The archiving of printed material from associations, societies and other non-governmental institutions is closely related to the acquisition and evaluation of written material of the respective provenance designer. The following associations form the focal points of the tradition: - Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutsche Feldpost 1914-1918/1939-1945 e.V. in the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten - Arbeitsgemeinschaft Zensurpost e.V. in the Bund Deutscher Philatelisten - Bund Deutscher Fallschirmjäger e.V. (BDF) - Bund Deutscher Kriegsgräberfürsorge e.V. - Bund Deutscher Kriegsbeschädigter und Kriegshinterbliebener e.V. (German War Graves Commission) (BDKK) - Association of former NCO preschoolers and NCO pupils e.V. - Association of War Blind Germans e.V. (BKD) - German Armed Forces Association - Deutscher Offizier-Verein e.V. - Deutscher Offizierbund e.V. - German Army Association - Association of German Soldiers e.V. (VdS) - Waffenring Deutscher Pioniere e.V. The tradition is constantly supplemented by new printed material. Citation style: BArch, MSG 3/...

Preliminary remark: The present collection of material on biographies was received by the Hauptstaatsarchiv Stuttgart in December 1975 as a gift from Freiherr Meinrad von Ow, Munich. It formed part of the written estate of General Franz Freiherr von Soden (1856 - 1945) and was collected by him in the years 1919 - 1945. The original reason for this may have been Sodens' plan to "compile a book of honour for the higher leaders". In 1921 or 1924, he succeeded in enriching his collection with material that had grown up in the years 1916/17 to about 20 officers killed in World War II under Lieutenant Colonel Osterberg (cf. No. 379 of the holdings), then Chief of the War Archive, von Soden's collection united documents on the biographies of military personnel, in particular of Württemberg officers, but also of men and women of general importance, as well as of persons who for various reasons found Soden interesting. This writing is of very different nature and quality. It mainly includes obituaries and newspaper articles, often written by Soden, concepts and manuscripts of Sodens on congratulations, eulogies and obituaries, as well as correspondences of Sodens with individual persons represented in the collection and the like. The note "very important" on one of the folders in which the collection was previously kept shows that it was of high value to von Soden. Today it is a welcome addition to the official files, which have not been fully preserved, especially for personnel matters. The collection, which comprised 6 folders when it was transferred to the archive, was created by superimposing the individual documents, newspaper clippings and the like from Soden and giving them a number. The documents received at different times for one and the same person were therefore usually not available. Since the collection lacked an internal order and since von Soden did not create an index either, it was neither usable in practice nor needed consideration of its previous state of order in the current reorganization, in which the material available for each person was combined and the inventory was based on an alphabetical classification. As a rule, the information in the title recordings was taken from the holdings themselves. Only the life data, partly also the first names and with officers the contingent affiliation were often supplemented with other aids (above all the archival holdings M 430/1 - M 430/5 general reference books and biographical encyclopaedias). However, it would only have been possible to achieve completeness in these additions, which are marked as such by square brackets only in justified exceptional cases, with a workload that would be out of proportion to the source value of the holdings. Unless otherwise stated, the officers are always members of the Württemberg army. The note "died" means both "died" and "fallen" or "died as a result of injury". The stock comprises 602 numbers (0, 85 linear metres). It was recorded at the beginning of 1977 by the archivist Herrmann under the supervision of Oberstaatsarchivrat Dr. Fischer, who was also responsible for the revision of the title recordings and the elaboration of the repertory. A.Preliminary remark The Hamburg World Economic Archives (HWWA) was created in 1919 from the Documentation Centre ("Zentralstelle") of the Colonial Institute founded in 1908. As an independent scientific institute of the Hanseatic City of Hamburg, its main task was to support business, the press and science with material. This took place, among other things, in the Archives Department, where a large number of domestic and foreign press publications are systematically evaluated. In the 1930s, a collection of press clippings on German history, but above all on the political and economic history of the occupied territories from the years 1918 to 1930, was handed over to the Düsseldorf State Archives. For the history of the levy see the relevant procedure in the files of the Provinzialverband (Archive of the Landschaftsverband Rheinland: Provinzialverband Nr. 10518). The delivery received the stock number RW 5. The file titles of the HWWA were retained during the recording. There have been no cassations. The stock was processed in 1970 by OStAR Dr. Joester, StAAss. Dr. Lepper and student phil. Lilla. B. List of abbreviations 1.
